Interesting Off-season Topic
« Topic Start: October 18, 2010, 12:40:02 PM »
Last year on XM-175, a non-scientific study was performed to try and determine the best player of the past four decades using the NCAA men's bracket idea.  Anyone interested in trying this WNFF style?  I still have all of the original information.  I would moderate this and I'd need some help from people to present arguments before voting on the final decision regarding each "game."  If I can get at least four people to help with presenting information regarding matchups I'd be willing to tally votes and keep this thing moving.  We could play this out over the course of the entire off-season and come up with the best player from the last 40 years by Opening Day of next year.

Anyone want in?

You guys can play for runner up.  I automatically win since I created the forum :mg:

I even dipped into my personal funds to make sure the on-field product was worthwhile :panic: :tomatoes: :couch:

This is players.  Hell, even Reggie Smith (the #16 seed in the 70's bracket) would whoop you in this one.

You want hammondsnats' bracket.   ;)

EDIT:  If we were to do hammondsnats' bracket idea, we'd totally have to divvy up the brackets as members of LAC vs. LANC and Stat Geeks vs. Mindfacters.  I totally would be like the #4 seed in the Mindfacters on the LANC side of the bracket.

This is the best player of the past 40 years.

Oh, I thought this was a spinoff of Hammonds prestige idea.  Nevermind then.

Maybe if it succeeds we could do pitchers next offseason. :D

P.S. I am in the LANC Stat Geeks bracket, which sucks because it means I'm going to get pwned by JCA.

What was hammonds idea?

I don't see a thread about it.

There's no thread about it.  He posted a similar idea about making a bracket of WNFF posters to see who would win that tournament (the post appears in the "WNNF poster...booze with" thread).  It's a comical idea and I'd be happy to throw my name in there and get pwned by sportsfan882.

They distinctly mentioned that pitchers weren't available for this particular study but that one should be done for pitchers as well.  Now that that decade is a year removed I think it's a good time to pull this one out.

And yeah.  I could see the LANC/stat geek bracket coming down to SSB v. JCA and terpster would have to be in the final four of that bracket.  It would be brutal because I think most of the really good posters are in that bracket and the winner there should take the whole thing.

I'm down for the poster tournament... and I'm down for the baseball one as well.

Anything to keep the interest up on the boards during the offseason.

I think Albert Belle needs to be on the 90's list. He was an absolute force.

I didn't pick the names for this bracket.  This was put together by the hosts of my former favorite radio show (Baseball This Morning) so I'd be down with changing any name anyone feels was left out but if we do that means we have to identify who needs to be removed.

Ah, I see it was somebody else's list...
And the LANC/stat bracket definitely has most of my favorite posters. SSB is starting to get disgruntled with the L's but I don't think he's said they AC yet. Maybe we should choose some other means of distributing the bracket. Like alphabetical order, or how many Washington Senators they can name, or Gameday thread records.

I think we should try the hammondsnats idea as well.  We'd just need criteria and bracket types and we could totally do something like that.  I definitely think Chief should moderate that and break any ties.

Number of posts should probably help determine the seeding.  In many ways, that bracket would be loads more fun than the one I've got up there.  Just trying to figure location and seeding would be high comedy.

I did take on Tom in the LBO sidetrack to one of the threads.  I'm not completely LANC.
