haha what I meant is right now D-Cab is 49, Bally is 40.  I doubt it'll change.

It might depend on how much d-cab digs that # (40) he is the longer tendered player and all that

That number didn't do much for him. He should turn it down if Balester offers it to him.

Nevermind, seems like Bally is switching numbers and will be 49.  I know D-Cab also wore 35 w/ the O's, but I guess he likes 40.

I already have a zim (x2), hammonds, milledge, church (he gone).  I will most likely get a Bally this year.  Or D-Cab (if he pwns)   8).

"pwn" term means "owning" something. internet geeks started it a while back.

as for the number, haha this reminds me of "The Fan" when Bobby Rayburn (Wesley Snipes) wanted Juan Primo's (Benicio Del Toro) number 11.  At least we didn't need a Gil Renard (Robert De Niro) to intervene in this situation.  Goes to show, Bally is a cool guy doesn't care what he wears.

cabrera doesnt deserve to covet a specific number. he should wear what he is given. i hope cabrera broke bally off pretty nice for that number

Is there a certain code that should be adhered to in baseball involving this type of thing?

Generally rookies give up their number if a veteran wants it, it's happened many a times before.

I like how football works were time with an organization counts more than being a veteran. Bally has been here longer, he should have kept the number

Yeah, yet another one of those unwritten rules that seem to mean so much to a select few.

Bally probably did the right thing to try to foster team unity, but when he gets behind closed doors he can  all he wants.

Look on the bright side.  If Cabrera has a breakout year, Balester can say he helped out a teammate.  If Cabrera sucks, Balester can say "damn I'm glad I got rid of that crappy number"

Balester > Cabrera

Therefore, he should get first pick :)
