It reads like a typical made-up internet story. I have this friend, he's reliable, etc. etc.
the story is funny enough and captures his character that it does not have to be true to be worth telling. It's like Jimmy Carter never using the word "malaise" in the "malaise" speech. It does not matter if it is true because the word captures the essence of what he was saying.
