If he keeps playing like he did this year, Zimmerman is worth way more than Teixeira. 3B >>>>> 1B. That is of course in an economy-neutral comparison. Zimmerman ultimately may not get as much money as Tex did. But still, even that argument only helps a fiscally-minded team save face, especially if they pile on a few more years of subterranean records and horrid attendance.
