4.07 FIP as a 24 year old in AAA. Either way, that translates to around 4.50 in the big leagues. Mediocre prospect. This bum shouldn't be dominating the Nats.

Once again...where did you find a MLE pitching calculator?

"He (Satchel Paige) threw the ball as far from the bat and as close to the plate as possible."  ... C. Stengel

That's what Gee is doing to the Nats.   GLE, GPS, ERA, etc. don't mean a thing.

Perhaps we'd been better served if we were Gee's second game.  :?

You know this game is going to end with an Espinosa walk-off jack.

Bally has looked really impressive lately. I hope he gets a serious shot out of spring training. (Call me biased, but Spinman's connection with him, makes me want to root hard for him)

Spinman, someone needs to work on Collin's wikipedia entry.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collin_Balester

It's very...sparse.

Nice play by Espinosa!

Balester looks about 12 without the 'stache.

NIce play by Espinosa sliding to his left to pull a ground-out away from a single to right. Very nice play.

No one hits that curveball.

He threw some wicked pitches that inning, great job.

Helluva catch by Dunn with the runner bearing in on him, on that errant throw.

Did you bother looking at both park effect and luck?  Park effect puts his AAA FIP at 3.75.  Luck effect puts it at 3.18.  Park drops the WHIP to 1.25 and luck drops it to 1.22.  So you've got a high K rate pitcher who doesn't walk people who pitched in a hitter's park and had significant bad luck.  Way to ignore all of that.

Balester makes the team next year. Does he start? I don't know, but he looks more in control than Detwiler did. Throws hard, too.

It's tough to build a big inning when you can't get the lead runner on.
