It used to be a good athlete in high school would play football in the fall, basketball in the winter and baseball in the spring. Now if you're on a high school baseball team you pitch in the spring, play on the summer league team and then the fall league. That ends in October. You have team workout after that until February when tryouts start. It's a year-around sport for high school baseball players now. A pitchers arm never gets a rest.

It is like that with every sport now for elite athletes. My grandson played hockey for 9 months of the year on as many as three teams in a season. I believe he knew he wasn't elite and did not play in the summer or go to a hockey camp.
