Jaw drops at the news.  I had sort of thought Sagan's performance the past few years fell off mostly due to his repeated Covid infections shaving off some of his lung capacity and fitness.  He always lacked the top-end speed of the pure sprinters, but consistently could put them into a ton of trouble through jumping into breaks or using them as lead outs even without his own train. HE would lock up green jerseys by getting into breaks over cat 2 mountains to be the only fast guy left. To some extent, two of my favs, GVA and John Degenkolb, in their prime used a similar tactic of clearing hard hills and winning out of reduced field sprints. I'm spacing a bit on the name of Sagan's domestique right now . . .
