Turner is what got us Ruiz though.
maybe.  It does seem like the breakdown was perhaps Gray and Carrillo for Scherzer and Ruiz and the outfielder for Turner. If it is that, then the return for Scherzer was maybe light.  If Scherzer alone, to the Padres or elsewhere, could have gotten the equivalent of an up-the-middle solid close to the majors position player similar to Ruiz, I don't think the rebuild would have been set back much.  It's hindsight, but the return was light, and the franchise damaged not only in baseball terms but also in its place in the community.  Turner should have been the jersey guy and the next FotF (if not Soto, who I think was traded for good value).
