Absolutely.  And if there's one thing the French love more than a winner, it's a heroic loser on a suicide ride.

I love giving Alaphilippe the combativity prize. He really was aggressive the first 10 days and fought like heck in the mountains. I think Vandevelde was right when he said Alaphilippe's TT changed the whole Tour b/c if Thomas had come out in yellow after the TT, then Bernal would have rode as a top domestique and not attacked to break the yellow jersey. Thomas wins the tour if he wins the TT
