Not to be cynical but it's probably management (Rizzo and/or the Lerners) suggesting or Harp sayin', "I'm playin'."
Management isn’t going to insist that an injured player start and if Dave doesn’t have the cajones to tell Bryce or anyone else for that matter when he’s playing and when he’s resting then he is worthless as a manager.
