He'll be here through 14-15 with his god awful contract

I wouldn't bet on that, if you saw the comments on "Teds Takes" on the blog thread about firing Flip - the fans are pretty vocal about getting rid of Blatche....and also, Randy doesn't play - he will change things -but that is another story - another thread......

Bryce is Jesus. He is going to bring the Nats to salvation. The chosen one to open the gates of paradise.

And $ .75 will buy  you a Washington Post - Heard This Before. Previous  Jesus/Savior labels - Adam Dunn, Jason Werth, Stephen Strasburg........Haven't Seen Any Halos yet.....  :rites:

Bryce is not Jesus.  That's reserved for Strasburg when he gets his breaking ball over.  Tony Plush gave the name to him.

Quote
Why Jesus? "'Cause what's the first thing you say when you see him pitch?" centerfielder Nyjer Morgan said, excited just to answer his own question. "Jeee-sus!"

Stephen Strasburg now knows how unbounded fascination awaits even the activities he finds routine, so sometimes, he shakes his head at the silliness but plays along anyway. When Morgan hollered, "What's up Jesus?" Strasburg, from the other side of the clubhouse, looked up in acknowledgement.

Before we drafted Harper, I referred to Bryce as Satan in anticipation of the Strasburg / Harper mound conferences when they would battle over the fate of humanity.   Once they announced Harper would not catch, that kind of threw cold water on that one.

All they can do is pay him to stay home unless they give up something valuable to convince another team to take him

Gio Gonzalez: ‘Hail to the Redskins’
By Dan Steinberg

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/dc-sports-bog/post/gio-gonzalez-hail-to-the-redskins/2012/01/26/gIQAFt12SQ_blog.html?wprss=rss_local

... Gio Gonzalez? On his first night in Washington, he went to a Caps game wearing red. “I was at the Capitals game and I got all the love in the world from all the fans,” he told reporters. Later that night, he ran up the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. And on his second day in town, he did an interview with ESPN 980, whose hosts ended the interview in typical fashion by wishing him well.

“Hey guys, one more thing before I go,” Gonzalez then interrupted. “I just want to say Hail to the Redskins.”

Dude’s either got good PR handlers, or he knows how to make a fanbase happy. “I finally found a home,” he also told the station. “I’m looking forward to competing and trying to bring home a World Series title.”

Every reporter he addressed he either repeated their name or said 'how are you' before a question was asked.  Seems personable!

if i recall correctly, didn't the nats lose 100 games in back-to-back seasons recently?  let's not act like we're contenders just yet.

Yeah, but they play in that crappy multi-use coliseum.

how is he going to get to 20,000 now?  nobody is going to follow him until they think they have a shot at getting the ball

Dave Sheinin today on Gio:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/nationals/nationals-gio-gonzalez-matured-into-a-pitcher-and-a-friend-with-oakland-athletics/2012/02/25/gIQAQkRfaR_story.html

Quote
Asked how Gonzalez will perform in his new environment, Braden offered a bold prediction.

“[Stephen] Strasburg has all the hype in the world,” he said, “but here’s what’s going to happen: You guys who don’t know Gio, you’ll end up more impressed with what he does. You already know what to expect out of Strasburg. But when you see Gio, you’re going to go: ‘[Expletive]. I knew he was good. But [expletive].”

And Boz:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/nationals/nationals-left-hander-gio-gonzalez-learned-curveball-so-much-more-from-his-father/2012/02/25/gIQAP18caR_story_1.html?sub=AR

Quote
The “Gio Who?” days will end soon. “His performance will do the talking. He’s the real deal,”Marrero said. “He throws hard [91 to 96 mph], hits spots, throws breaking balls for strikes in all counts,” Marrero said. “That curveball — what an out pitch. He throws it at different speeds. . . . In high school, doing stretching, if you touched his arm, he was just more flexible than anybody else. That gives him the whip in his curveball.”

Pretty cool, (almost) compensates for the loss of Livo.

Must teach Gio the art of the junk punch, also known as The Cuban.
