uptons that play together get in each others way together.

So they had to wrap BJ up in a package with Kimbrel in order to find a taker?

I'm guessing BJ probably just gets cut.

Thats it? A very good prospect, a C+ OF prospect, and a pick would have gotten Kimbrel?

At the very least, it's the baseline for a Chapman deal.

Even though they're on the hook for his $14m?

I'm keeping him around, if only to keep his bro company :)

Braves trim $54M off their payroll if it's a straight up deal.

Getting rid of BJ Upton's contract is priceless.

Primary thought is that this is much better news for Miami & New York than it is for us.

BJ has negative value given his contract.  They might have gotten more for Kimbrel alone.

If the Nats were going to see Kimbrel at all this season it would mean that game went horribly wrong, but still I guess it's good that if we're down in the 9th for some reason against that AAAA team, we don't have to face Kimbrel.

Good job by Atlanta getting rid of BJ. Yeah, Quentin and Maybin are pretty bad contracts themselves, but at least Upton is gone now, and Maybin has some degree of reclamation project upside. Also good job trading Kimbrel. They did what KC didn't when they had Joakim Soria, and that is trade a dominant closer when you're crappy. KC refused to deal Soria for years and then he got hurt and they got nothing for him. Atlanta was wise to avoid that.

Problem is that the Braves don't teach hitting well. So I wonder how good those reclmation projects are going to end up.

Can we really say that? The past regime, perhaps, but they're under new management now. Kevin Seltzer did some good work in Kansas City. Can't really say how well they will or won't do yet.

And San Diego's bullpen is gonna be amazing this year. Kimbrel, Benoit, Quackenbush, Thayer, Maurer, etc is utterly phenomenal.

Maybe, but Kimbrel owned the Nats. Not that whomever they replace him won't, but now they won't have to fight against one of their biggest nemesis' of recent years.

They probably don't care that much. I'm sure they'd prefer that they panned out reasonably well so that they could be re-dealt later on, but they aren't looking to win right now, so it doesn't matter too much.
