Boras breaking down as he talks about Ted Lerner. Said he wanted Annette here to meet Crews and his family.

He will have to pick a different number when he goes to the Phillies in 2031.

A nice mention of Annette Lerner. I don't know if those were honest tears from Scott Boras, and it made me smile when Boras said that "we" brought a championship to Washington, but, heck. It's a press conference, and the Nats have used some Boras players over the years.

I might have the phrasing wrong, but when Crews was asked about the pressure of living up to expectations he replied with something related to "pressure is a privilege"

Too soon

Too soon and the least of our concerns (even though I’m sure it was a joke). The Phillies have added precisely one former Nat that anyone thinking dispassionately about the situation cared to retain (Harper), and in that very offseason the Nats added the top FA pitcher that helped them win a WS. I’m FAR more concerned about Rizzo improving his drafting record over the next five to seven years (assuming he’s still in his position) than that issue. If the Philles want to keep giving players massive contracts that stretch into their their late 30s, they should feel free to do so. It’s a spectacularly cost inefficient way to run a team that’s going to inevitably backfire. I suspect by the time Crews is a FA and the Harper and Turner contracts are albatrosses, they’ll have pivoted away from that type of team construction anyway.

Crews wore a perfect number: Mickey Vernon, two-time batting champion, and Harmon Killebrew.

He’s probably already a better hitter than most of the current team.

Give him a couple weeks in Florida, and then send him to Frederickburg.

Just a thought. What is it like to have just graduated college and never have to work another day in your lifetime. Modest investments will produce a million dollars per annum without touching the corpus. I’m not taking anything away from Crews as he according to everything we have read about him has a tremendous work ethic plus great skills.
