I like listening to Hip-Hop songs, and then finding the songs that their beat samples came from, and then listening to them as well.

for example:

<------ Nas, "Hip-Hop is Dead"

came from
<----Incredible Bongo Band, "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida"
<--- Incredible Bongo Band, "Apache"

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida is particularly amazing, the entire damn song is crazy. someone in the youtube comments said "If I were a superhero, this would be my theme song". and I agree completely with that sentiment.

The newest Shai Hulud album - really great stuff. The new vocalist is the best they have had I think.

I'll probably go with something less intense later.

I found my less intense listening material:

Alestorm is pirate heavy metal from Scotland. Sweet!

Austrian Death Machine - they only make songs about Arnold Schwarzenegger Movies (including christmas carols sung in a fake Austrian accent)

will be going to see Jonathan Edwards in the Barns of Wolf Trap this Friday night.  Taking the kids, too.  Not too early to get them into live music.  Unfortunately, I won't be able to catch the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band at the Birchmere this week, I think the night before.  That's one awesome band, great live.

Did I ever tell you yunguns the story of the time the Dirt Band blew Three Dog Night right off the stage at Capital Centre?

Wonderful music!
There is a video on YouTube of Gil Shaham playing this piece; it looks incredibly hard to play!

The New Orleans Jazz Festival is coming up in about two months.

There are literally hundreds of acts, with only a small portion shown on the logo.
