Lipscomb's best shot at playing time is as a utility guy, maybe a super-utility. House to Rochester would give the Red Wings a chance to move Lip around the infield, including 1st. Maybe even a little left field.

House is not tearing up AA: .241 - .792 OPS. Lipscomb ought to be back with the Nats. He hits, he steals bases, and he fields 3B. Nats don't need both Gallo and Menesses at 1B. As you suggested, send Menesses to Rochester to work on his swing.

Lipscomb has a reputation for fielding 3B, but the reality is that he struggled on defense while up with the club.  It's probably not fair to him that they moved him around so much but if he wants to stick in the majors, he will have to figure it out.  His hitting is not good enough (yet?).  Having said that, I would prefer him over Senzel!!!!!

I wonder what the average OPS is in the Eastern League this year?  MLB is .698. Been trending down for a few years although it got a bounce back last year with no shift. Used to be .750 OPS was average. No more.

Eastern LEague average OPS is .680

Kind of notorious for being tough on offense. .229 / .320 / .359.

Lip's future is as a utility guy. He needs some time at all positions. Even if he's better overall than Senzel (dubious), he's better off at AAA getting reps at SS and 2d, and maybe 1st and LF too.

Senzel right now has a .760 OPS and looks comfortable throwing at 3rd. sure he's .212, but he's also .337 OBP and .424 SLG. That SLG is somewhat built on one hot week, but that OBP reflects 9 BBs over the last 2 weeks. There's a case to be made to hit him behind CJ.

House is hitting .241. That is not tearing up AA; it is the sign of a player learning to master a higher level of the minors. He is roughly at the same spot as Andrew Pinckney, who is hitting better but with less power.

with due respect, Welch, look at House's whole batting line - .241 / .333 / .459. That .792 OPS is substantially above Eastern League average of .680. Those 8 HRs in a league that's tough on power is impressive.

.792 OPS is more than 100 points above the league average. So he’s doing very well.  No harm keeping in double A for a while.

wRC+ of 128, or 28% above league average.

Crews is even a little better than that.

Yep. Could keep him, Hassell, and Crews in Double A through the deadline, send them to Rochester for a couple weeks, and then call them up to the majors.

Make the move in mid June. Give him 2 months in AAA, then, if he looks good, a call up 2d half of August. That's ambitious, but would work for Crews

Crews is more advanced than House. House would need to go on a monster tear to justify a MLB callup this season.

My gut feel: Wood should to the majors in about two weeks. I'd say "now", but the Nats must have some reason to let him "practice" AAA pitching. Crews to AAA in July, and leave him until Spring Training. House and Pinckney to AAA about August 1. Let House get AAA baseball until next June, and evaluate then.

There is nothing wrong with letting House play AA until he hits better. Compare him to Crews, who seems to be mastering AA.

That's assuming that each shows progress. As Rizzo keeps reminding us, no player is on a train that will arrive on schedule.

And maybe it is worth having an overall discussion of batting average. I think it is important alongside OPS. A low average means a player is not getting wood on pitches. My hunch: a player hitting .300 or .290 has room to hit more doubles. A hitter like Joey Gallo might hit 20 home runs, but if he's hitting .150 he is likely doing nothing between those occasional home runs.

Baseball has been played a long time, and all those managers and general managers considered average important. (I'm about to dig through that Post article on Ohtani and the Triple Crown)

yes. Still, I might bump him up to AAA midseason with the aim of giving him 200 PAs at a higher level this year if he is handling AA well

Meh, Triple A is looking pretty worthless. Theres no reason to not give all the top prospects some time at the MLB level. Give them the offseason to work on prepping for making the Opening Day roster in 2025.

Really nice game for him.

Unlike Crews, his BB/K is not really improving, but being just 20, he has plenty of time.

This is a thing we all knew of course, but this young fella smokes baseballs to all fields. Just really impactful contact every time he touches a baseball. It’s a 35-40 hr ceiling at the next level.
