No team in their right mind would have spent $5 million on this dude. Now he can't even play outfield. If there were a remote possibility that he could be flipped at the trading deadline, then maybe you keep him around. Sometimes you have to admit defeat -- cut him loose, because he's worthless.
The fine ownership of this org struggles with the concept of a sunk cost, so they have this "I paid you so I'll play you" mentality that often does not work out well if you actually want to win. Boras manipulated them, and they fell for it, in spite of their typically frugal ways. There was no reason to sign him, and no one's going to part ways with a bucket of balls to trade for him.
