Taylor sent down, Zim activated

With Rodney now on the roster and Taylor optioned off, bluestreak will probably go full birds fan now.

Nats nearing a minor league deal with Brad Boxberger per Svrluga.  Boxberger was recently released by KC.

*sigh* Why would you spend this much money on starting pitching and skimp everywhere else? Do the Lerners realize it's not 1994?

Boxberger? Maybe he's done some opening, but he's not a starter . . .

I think he's saying that Rizzo is dumpster diving for relievers with an expensive starting staff.

Exactly. 100 million dollars in four starting pitchers, and now all of the sudden,  they're unwilling to spend on needed bullpen help despite the glaring need.

I don't mind him throwing a bunch of crap at the wall and seeing what sticks, as long as it doesn't keep him from getting a real arm via trade. Brad Hand was found off of Miami's scrap heap. There are other stories like him too. relievers are fickle.

Do you really want to trust a fickle reliever in the 6th inning if a wild card game?

The time to throw crap at the wall was May and early June. Its July,  you're barely hanging on, you've already lost over a dozen games because of this pen, and every other team in the hunt is going to be making a move.

Under current management initiatives, that's the most we can hope for

And yet you were the one worried about exceeding the luxury tax earlier this season.

nats are starting to steal the jays thunder--taking a flyer, and signing every AAAA player just released, in the hope to catch lightning-in-a-bottle...

This is key -- "every other team in the hunt is going to be making a move."  I'm still for blowing it all up in a sellers' market where the only hope is MAYBE getting a 50% opportunity at the NLDS.  Right now we have 4 healthy, acceptable starters with NO depth whatsoever in this area.  The bullpen is a total crap shoot.

There's no cost to the throw spaghetti at a wall in Harrisburg approach. It can be supplemented by trades, but basically, try everything.  I'd love it is they could fix Boxberger, and maybe they sell themselves to guys like him by saying, "we and 4 other teams are interested in you, but we offer you the best path back to the majors on a playoff team."

There is if this is the plan moving forward instead of trading for a known commodity.

Id like to be in on Giles, Greene, Will Smith, too.  I just don't think either path is exclusive. I'd also be happy if Dakota Bacus turns into 2018 Ryan Brazier.

The only way to do that is to not sign guys like Rodney and Boxenberger.

Earn your way back to the bigs.  I like it.  The first thing he needs to do is stop looking like he is about to piss his pants on the mound.  He looks terrified.

So Venters has been moved to the 10 day IL with an undisclosed injury, with no corresponding move.  I'm surprised they didn't plug Barraclough in for him.  He must really be in the dog house.  Justin Miller seems to be getting closer.  Voth, Fedde, and McGowin are in Harrisburg.
