Wife says what kind of name is Mookie?  :hysterical:

Here's your answer:

What's in a name? When Mookie Betts was first promoted to the majors, his rapid rise through the Boston Red Sox farm system was only part of his intrigue. His unique name was another part. And while many Red Sox fans feared Betts was named after Mookie Wilson, whose ground ball through the legs of Bill Buckner in the 1986 World Series still haunts a nation of fans, that's not the case. Betts' mother Diana Benedict has a sister named Cookie. Cookie named her son partly after Benedict. So when Benedict was naming her son, she wanted to include her own name, Mookie's father's name and an ode to her sister. Their solution: Markus Lynn Betts, nickname Mookie.

Benedict, a basketball fan, also liked the play of Mookie Blaylock, a guard for the Atlanta Hawks that year, so the name stuck.

It wasn't until after they chose Markus Lynn that they realized his initials would be MLB.
