Gist?

Here's the thread. Ben Tribbett is a pretty well known political analyst/consultant in Virginia/DC:

Quote
I've been a Caps season ticket holder for almost 10 years.  The gift they gave their season ticket holders this year was a pair of fake autographed pucks.

When I called to cancel my season tickets for next year, I got the pitch that hasn't been updated for a few years.  "Well what about the playoffs?".   Yeah, exactly that's what the fans are all asking.

But they offered to let me keep my seats for this mystery playoff appearance if I prepaid all 16 potential home games now.  Of course that is ridiculous- the team is basically eliminated from the possibility of hosting any playoff series- which means the MAX games would be 12.

It took me three years on a wait list (that no longer exists) to get my tickets- and the entire time they kept offering to let me skip in line if I bought packages of the Wizards also.  No thanks.

All the models for the new stadium involve huge jumps in revenue because after putting these subpar performances forward they are planning to jack up ticket prices even higher.  Not a single game this year could I resell my tickets for face value because they are priced so high.

The reality is this- and all the major sports league should learn this- having one ownership group in charge of multiple teams does not create any synergy for the fans and only leads to worse teams, higher ticket prices and people finding other things to do with their time.

It might be nice if he would seek to help educate some of the state level general assembly members about why writing this guy a blank check is a really bad idea

The Caps have had a long run of relative success and now in a lull.  Hard to rebuild as Ovie closes in on the record and Ted doesn’t want to lose more fans. If they went into a rebuild would this guy keep his tickets?  Did he think they would continue to be successful forever.  Look at the Penguins.

If it’s bad to have a guy owning multiple teams I guess the Commanders are doomed.

Gettin' tired of commercials with Ted's minions trying to convince us that their new arena plan is a good idea.  They should have hired Cindy Crawford as a spokesperson...she may have convinced me...

I'll say it again.  Watching and listening to Ted's kid is akin to nails on a chalkboard...

I hope Virginia and DC both nagslap the Leonsis clan...

I’m Very fortunate to be out of the DMV and miss that.

Just wait until Monumental get the Nats broadcasts!

Sounds like the deal is dead?

I think I read somewhere that they may have 10 lobbyists down there. They seem to be throwing all sorts of things at this, including the governor, and even if the upcoming session finishes without something definitive, the governor reportedly can call things back into session on specific issues. I’ll believe it’s done when I see it.

There was an article that they were going to offer Louis toll relief in Hampton Roads in exchange for her support . It might be enough, but I don’t think it will go ever well with Nova voters and our politicians

No mention of the $25 in company scrip one gets for renewing?  That's almost enough for a beer.

Anthony Mantha to Vegas.  Second rounder this year and a fourth rounder in 2026.

Joel Edmondson traded.  Show of hands for those who knew he was a Cap.

No.  Canada.  But Toronto.

Future shining bright tonight.   The Kemper deal was the dumbest thing we’ve done.  Chuckie

Sounds like Kuzy to the Canes for a third round pick.  And Caps retain half salary.  So Canes get Kuzy and Guentzel.  Florida gets Tarasenko.  Leafs got some third pair defense.  Not sure Boston has done anything.  East could be some crazy good playoffs.

I don't understand how bonuses are figured when you retain half of his salary.  Do we eat the entire $2MM annual bonus along with the $6MM annual salary?

If so, we end up paying about another $1MM this year and $4MM next for a bag of pucks IN 2025.  I'll take it!!!!!

I predict he won't make it to the end of his contract in 2025 before the Canes tire of him as well...

Max should go to a playoff team, and I'd think Jensen would bring a decent return from a contender, as would Dowd.  I'm afraid we may be stuck with Kuemper for another 3 years...unless we eat salary...

So this is what being road kill feels like.  The carrion eaters are picking the carcasses clean today  :D

Maybe Carolina will help themselves to a physio and some equipment before they leave via the smashed door.

Carolina apparently likes sloppy seconds.  Didn't they learn something from Semin?

Last nights game highlights...
  1.  Charlie Lindgren added to his 2023-2024 Caps MVP resume'...big time.  He was spectacular.  Vezina level spectacular.
  2.  Connor Bedard showed 2 Caps a "now you see it, now you don't" moment within nanoseconds of each other that I don't think I've ever seen before.  A play that rocks you back in your seat.  This kid is the real deal.
That's it.  Overall one of the poorest played games I think I have ever seen at the NHL level.  Slow pace of play, sloppy passing, miserable stickhandling and puck possession, few breakouts, uninspired checking...just overall blech.

So looks like another year with no playoffs for the Caps.  Or either of Ted’s teams for that matter. Two years in a row.  And Ovie not scoring much.  What is the plan for the Caps?  How can they be competitive again?

they are 3 points behind 2 teams for the last spot and have 16 or so games left. Why the doom and gloom?

Two straight road blowouts.  Three more on the left coast.  Followed by Toronto and Carolina at home.
