League-average pitcher for his career, which is more than any other Nats pitcher can say (except maybe Livo).

Zimmermann and Lannan are better

is our scouting department still like 3 people deep?  it seems as if we have no book on this guy pitching in the first time through.

Is it a bad sign that the Nationals' best at bat so far resulted in a strike out?

Marquis, Lannan, JZ have all been league average/better I'd say.

To add fuel to the Zimm fire (because lord know we need more of that) ... no one here thinks Ryan had a play at first on the grounder down the line?

He held the runner.  Good.

The hitter was about 3/5 of the way down the line.

All you baseball experts, can't a thirdbaseman throw a guy out who still has ten yards or so still to run?

Definitely not Marquis.  Lannan, you can make the argument for, I'm not getting involved.  Zimmermann, probably, but we don't exactly have a large sample size to work with.

Zimmerman has shown an amazing ability to make that play. Zimmerman is probably the best 3B I have ever seen so if he held the ball I will trust his judgment that he felt he had no shot to throw him out. He may have reasoned that there was no plus in attempting the play. The runner may have been safe anyway and throwing late from that position may have resulted in another errant throw and opened the door for more disaster.
