And why aren't they? The injury excuse sucks.
Casto scores on the wild pitch! Now that's how you manufacture a run yourself.
Too many of our players this year are too young and have things to work on (Milledge, Zimmerman, Flores), are filler (Orr, Mackowiak, maybe Casto), or are just too old/suck and really need to be cut from this team's future plans (Lopez, Lo Duca).
For me, I don't see too much of a difference between a 90-loss season and a 110-loss season in the grand scheme of things. Either way, you aren't even sniffing the playoffs.
I'd prefer the 110-loss season, in fact. For one, I want us to have the top draft pick. Even if Strasburg has an arm amputation between now and next June, there seems to be some tremendous talent at the top of next year's draft, and I want the Nats to have first crack at it.
Secondly, if this team's going to suck, they might as well stand out in their suckitude. If you're going to suck, make headlines for it! Do something to make history, I say.
Lastly, I think this team has a pretty decent core, really (Balester, Lannan, Zimmerman, Dukes, Flores), and I think it'd be hilarious if by some miracle they were GOOD next year and embarrassed the hell out of prognosticators who focused too much on this awful season.
