But would you be embarrassed in front of? I don't think anyone gives a crap. And if they do, they are probably pieces of crap themselves.
We are the laughingstock of the baseball world. Just look at Nationals Park tonight for further proof. More Phillies fans there than Nationals fans. Nationals fans know that their team sucks so bad so they just shut up and take all the punishment from the Phils fans.

Good job of battling by Lannan.

And why aren't they? The injury excuse sucks.

Casto scores on the wild pitch! Now that's how you manufacture a run yourself.
Too many of our players this year are too young and have things to work on (Milledge, Zimmerman, Flores), are filler (Orr, Mackowiak, maybe Casto), or are just too old/suck and really need to be cut from this team's future plans (Lopez, Lo Duca).

For me, I don't see too much of a difference between a 90-loss season and a 110-loss season in the grand scheme of things.  Either way, you aren't even sniffing the playoffs.

I'd prefer the 110-loss season, in fact.  For one, I want us to have the top draft pick.  Even if Strasburg has an arm amputation between now and next June, there seems to be some tremendous talent at the top of next year's draft, and I want the Nats to have first crack at it.

Secondly, if this team's going to suck, they might as well stand out in their suckitude.  If you're going to suck, make headlines for it!  Do something to make history, I say.

Lastly, I think this team has a pretty decent core, really (Balester, Lannan, Zimmerman, Dukes, Flores), and I think it'd be hilarious if by some miracle they were GOOD next year and embarrassed the hell out of prognosticators who focused too much on this awful season.

In a sport as number-centric as baseball, records matter and that's a record you don't want to be associated with in any way.

I guess it matters if you care about those things, but I just don't. I didn't know the '62 Mets held the record.

And for the 110-loss camp, I don't know how that's avoidable!  They'd have to win 15 more games to get to 109 losses.

Does ANYBODY think 15 more wins is a possibility with this team?

I haven't heard anyone laughing, but I do know that not many are paying attention. Do you think there would be more fans there if we were a potential 100 loss team instead of a 120 loss team? We are a losing team. That's it.

Who gives a freak about the record?  I think that's something Mets fans look back on and laugh at now.  Do you think they cared in 1969 when they won the World Series?

crap we have 2 months to accomplish that feat. We have to able to win 15 games in that span of time.

Unfortunately we don't have a World Series to look back on.  We're mired in the present and it's quite a mire.  :?

Milledge is 2/17 since returning from the DL. And one of those hits was a bunt-base hit.

We're only 3 HR's and 6 shutout innings from winning this game.   :woop:

I am really, really hoping that he's more like Randy Winn than Terrmell Sledge.

Let's see.  Lo Duca and Flores are sitting, now that the trade deadline expired, and Casto and Orr are playing.    While everyone assumes that Lopez is history, he's an ex-Red.  I think the guy to go down should be Pete Orr.  He's 29 and really a career minor leaguer.

The Nationals traded Livan Hernandez, Marlon Anderson, and a 3rd player during August.  They just have to pass through waivers before Aug 31.  Other teams could have injuries or get closer to a playoff slot, so we could still trade some of these guys.  But I expect they'll be mainly pinch hitters.

Ryan Langerhans finally has a hot bat but he's benched.  He hit a homer and got some RBIs the last time his dad was present.

Beaned Zimmerman!! Time to hit Utley!

Kearns just needs to learn how to hit low and away pitches and he'll be a solid hitter. Very nice swing there.
