If you add up the salaries of LaRoche and the guys they just let go, that adds up to nearly $20 mil.  Nats could use that on a 5th starter and some bullpen help.

This is a better move than trading Meyer for Span

I vote that we re-sign Lannan at a cheaper price if there is any interest there.  He could be valuable as a 5th starter or in a similar to role to how he was used last year.

left-handers John Lannan and Tom Gorzelanny and catcher Jesus Flores.
 That saves about $8,850,000

Jackson... what $10,000,000  Adam was $10,000,0000 ?

That's about 28,850,000 less Span $6,000,000? =  $22 million saved

Hey...  Where is Wang ?? Is his 2,000,000 saved?

What kind of starter can you find for about 12 million a yr

Sign Livan to a minor league deal. Let him pitch as a starter for Syracuse so if somebody goes down you have some insurance. But under no circumstances should he ever pitch out of the bullpen.

Then go sign Greinke

Gorzelanny could be retained on a more team friendly deal.  Depends on what they feel he's worth.  Non-tendering does not mean a player will not stay.  However, it seems more likely he'll go elsewhere.

i do hope we manage to work something out with Gorzy, he was a great arm in the pen and could cover a lot of different roles.  Maybe they work out a 2 year deal?

Me too...and I don't want to have to change the quote on my avitar.  Gorzo and Adam are my most favorite ex-Pirates.

This is almost definitely true but I would still like to see him back.  Not like we don't need SPs at the moment and the little-known fact is that he still has an option left so he could be used the same way he was last year.

Brian Wilson non-tendered, I'd expect he'll re-sign with the Giants.

Yes, I'm told Wilson feels disrespected by #sfgiants, tho one person who knows him said he's "pouting" and could change mind about return.

I wonder how much less lannan would take to go anywhere other than here?

I'm a bit late to add this, but I'm not happy with Flores. I understand lannan and gorz not getting bites, but we should have gotten SOMETHING for Flores. Young, cheap, ton of upside and potential, hasn't played enough due to injury or other players to be labeled a failure. Losing him for nothing is a crime. Some team had to have offered something, anything, for him.

Really?  My opinion is that Flores was the least trade-able of the three.  I like the "you can't call him terrible because he's always hurt" defense though.

Flores had a golden opportunity this year to show that he could start, but he did nothing with it.

He went from not playing for a few years to playing every day for months on end, at the most grueling position.  He should have been given more frequent breaks, perhaps getting 65% of the starts instead of what seemed well north of 80% (mindfact).

Maybe. He never had a good offensive game and the shoulder injury killed his arm. When you add in he's a year away from free agency, there really isn't much to like. Although he does have nice hair
