Cus the point of ST is to get the players ready for the season?

No reason to get bums like Garcia, Vargas, Gallo, Robles ready for the season.   Start the season with the kids.   One of them wins ROTY, roll with the pick

The kids are looking good so far. I am very pleased with Hassell finally showing promise in a nats uniform. Him, crews and wood may be coming to town sooner rather than later.

The extra service time is far more valuable.

Millas has such a good eye, hope Coles and co. don't ruin it.
I'm kind of hoping he beats out Adams, tbh.

I am inclined to give the plan another year. I don't want to see the potential RotY candidates up until late August, after there's too few days left to lose rookie status. Something like 40 or 45 days or 130 ABs.

As for Gallo, I think you play him to see if you can trade him. You'll be likely to get something more than the equivalent of a pick at the end of the 1st. I'd consider a Herz quality guy to be worth more than the bonus pick, and a decent year from Gallo can get you that. I've spoken about my infatuation with a "heavy" outfield with Thomas or Gallo in center, the other in a corner, and Garrett in the last spot. Free Winker to DH, and use Joey at 1st. If Yepez earns a spot, fine. That's your pop line up.

Gallo has a $5m contract with deferrals into the next two seasons.  That weighs heavily on how this org thinks about who to play.

Will see what happens when the callups start happening, but this will be a boring team for at least the first few weeks of the season as all the kids go back to Harrisburg/Rochester to prevent service time accrual.  One reason why many of us are paying more attention to ST than we will be to April matchups featuring the players you mentioned.

Gallo isn’t bringing back a thing in a trade

he's been moved at least twice at trade deadlines, so I expect that his typical big pop, decent obp, poor average, and good defense will get us something.

Rizzo did get Lane Thomas for the putrefied corpse of Jon Lester so I guess it’s possible.

Reminder that García is still only 23. Maybe I'm starting to get old myself but it seems weird to not consider him one of the kids still. I guess that's what happens when you debut at age 20.

Gallo would have been our second best hitter last season behind only Lane Thomas (third if you include Candelario) and that was considered a down year for him. It wouldn't surprise me if he's done and we can't get anything for him, but neither would it surprise me if he's this year's Candy.

Today's lineup...https://www.mlb.com/gameday/nationals-vs-cardinals/2024/02/29/748180/preview

Cards hitters are raking.

Would like to see Jacob Young keep it going.  He turns 25 this season and he's already got some MLB service time from last year so not much benefit to keeping him in the minors to start the season.   Won't be an FA until he's 30 and his speed will likely start dropping at that point anyway.

If you go down the box score on gameday Strasburg is listed as one of the players who didn’t get in the game yet!
