Wat, you can Rule 5 draft a player and then trade him immediately? How does that work if Detroit returns him?

Money goes to Boston.

Also, the Tweet that MLBTR cites as the source for the Kobernus trade was this

Tigers will get Kobernus

Had a feeling Rosenbaum and Kobernus both could get picked.  Think Rosenbaum has a much better chance to stick in Colorado than Kobernus in Boston though.

And if Boston traded him for a player? Or does it have to be PTBNL?

Just saw Kobernus to the Tigers.  Even less of a chance to stick there.

No way Rosenbaum sticks in Colorado.
Wouldn't be so sure.  They are bad enough to be able to stash him in mop up duty for the season if they choose.

How can Rosenbaum pitch in Colorado?  Gonna be tough for him.

you know, needing talent so bad that you make picks in the 5 sucks
you know what else, having enough talent that you cant protect everyone and they get picked sucks too...
sure, it's like a feather in your cap thing, you have lots of talent. but losing that talen sucks.

will be hopefully waiting for the updates in late march that we get these guys back. If they break camp on the 25's, i'll get a lot more worried.

Since the rule 5 draft changed, not many guys make a difference at the ML level.  Sure it could happen but the chances are slim.

We have a really good ML team.  Rizzo and his staff really need these next few drafts to replenish the farm system.

Our starters of Werth, Harper, Span (Goodwin to replace him hopefully in 14' or 15'), Zim, Desi, Espi, Suzuki/Ramos and hopefully ALR/Tyler Moore should be in place for the next several years.  The rotation is pretty well set.

If Rizzo can rebuild that system over the next 2-3 years then we should be fine.  That is of course assuming those starters all stay fairly healthy long term.

I hope Kobernus can stick with the Tigers. I don't see him as part of the Nats future.

At some point Rosenbaum would be injury insurance, but probably not yet, I'm glad he gets a shot at making a major league roster - he's not the type of pitcher I could ever see Rizzo wanting to be part of the rotation

Nats AGM Bryan Minniti says the Nats are trying hard to sign more SP depth. Challenging because there's little major league opportunity.

The trade really has no bearing in this case.  Boston could ask Detroit for $ as part of the trade but that's true in any trade.

we need another Zach Duke, someone coming back from a rough year or two or an injury that's content pitching at AAA until there's an injury.

I've seen him play a lot at Potomac, really nothing special with not much of any chance to get to the big club.  Would have been nothing more than trade bait.

I am sorry to see Rosenbaum go.  he could have been our Duke/Gorzy at some point.

Michael Burgess goes from the Cubs to Houston, we sent him to Chicago for Gorzy, another guy with virtually no hope of staying in the majors.

Yeah but the benchmark for them to keep him will be super low.  They have no pitching.  It's possible they see him as a pitcher that do will do well in Colorado too -- they are trying to target pitchers with delivery/type that will overperform in their environment (relative to other pitchers, since everyone's ERA balloons bigtime there).

I hate to say it, but Chein Ming-Wang?  Why not sign him to an AAA deal?
