So Ohtani says he never bet on baseball......
I think he said he didn’t bet on sports at all. I’m sure MLB will get to the bottom of it. LOL.

Let's see...the NBA's betting affiliate dismissed over/under bets on a player's game from last week because an unusually large amounts of bets were placed on the under...and the player took himself out of the game by claiming and injury after playing only a few minutes.

Quote
Toronto Raptors center Jontay Porter is away from the team because he is the subject of a gambling investigation, according to a report Monday.

ESPN reported that games on Jan. 26 and March 20 are under investigation — in particular, prop bets related to Porter’s statistics.

Quote
“We have no comment on this story,” a DraftKings spokesman said Monday. “In general, it is important to note that one of the many benefits of legal and regulated sports betting is that sports betting operators identify and report suspicious activity and the integrity of sport is therefore protected in a manner that does not exist in the illegal market.”

Porter’s prop bets were the top moneymaking bets on two different nights of NBA action over the last two months, when the under on 0.5 3-pointers made hit at -120 on Jan. 26, and on March 20 when his props were the biggest moneymakers that night in the NBA, according to the DraftKings Sportsbook Insights, which is published daily and distributed to media members.

Quote
Wednesday’s loss to the Sacramento Kings was one of the games that was reportedly under special scrutiny. Porter played fewer than three minutes before leaving with what the Raptors called an illness. With starting center Jakob Poeltl out with a left hand injury, Porter has been the backup to Kelly Olynyk at center recently.

What are the odds that a bookie let a guy making 200k a year bet $183 million?

For that much money, I'm thinking the bookie would have to know who was placing bets.

Passan posted a snippet from the indictment of a conversation between Mizuhara and a bookmaker in which the bookmaker seemed to think Mizuhara was acting on Ohtani's behalf, but Mizuhara admitted he stole the money.

He wired the money out of Bank of America to a bookie. That is going to be the know your client example used in risk management training for years. I still think he actually was acting on Ohtani's behalf. That's too much money exiting accounts for the agents, financial managers, accountants... too all just miss

So you think the Feds made a mistake?  My understanding from limited reading today was that he gained access to Ohtani’s accounts and phones.  So no doubt he could have lied to those others also posing as Ohtani.

The Feds haven’t charged Ohtani so I will assume he is innocent.

I bet lots of rich athletes and entertainers are going to be asking to look at their accounts every day now.

NY Times said Mizuhara is negotiating a plea deal.  And no indication he is an implicating Ohtani in any crimes.  He was posing as Ohtani.  I don’t think bookies care about verifying identities when the money is produced.  All they need to know is the money is real and where to deposit any winnings. Also it sounds like Ohtani’s people were the ones to initially notify the Feds.

The bookies don't care, the banks are supposed to. Part of wiring that much money out is verifying client identity even when the client is too rich to be bothered.

Mizuhara seemed to have no problem doing that.

I'm glad this investigation has cleared Ohtani of all wrong doing. He's good for the game and from all appearances a good man.

If Mizuhara bet $183 million, then he must have been pretty good at his bets in order to not have lost his shirt earlier. How much was Ohtani out on all this? Even Ohtani might have noticed $183 million. I wonder what loss had him go back to Shohei to grab the last amount.
