Bat DUKES 3rd! Bat Dukes 3rd! That lineup would rule the universe. Also maybe switch Alberto and Jesus.

Hermida will be LF and Ross in RF
Baker will probably be catching and in the #2 hole, with Maybin in CF and batting in the #8 hole.

Nolasco has not been pitching well - he's not getting much movement on the ball right now.  In 11.0 IP in 2 starts, he has a 7.36 ERA and given up 2 HR.  He's throwing strikes (120 out of 174, 69%), but without the movement they aren't good strikes and he is quite hittable.

God this like a flashback to Opening Day. At least it's on our turf. We need to get these guys down with 2 wins so the Crab can mop up on Sunday.

Uh oh. NatsAddict with his usual doom-and-gloom predictions for the Fish-- that means the Nats will only get three hits off Nolasco and lose 11-1. :?

For some strange reason, I think the Nats ability (or lack there of) to get Baker out, will be the key to the series.

Well then, I should mention that Danny Boy is actually driving in runs.  He even went oppo to knock in one Wednesday, and not only made contact with, but actually doubled down the line on a curve yesterday.  I'm running out of smelling salts.

In 9 IP through 2 starts, Lannan has a 10.00 ERA and has given up 3 HR. He wins.

St. Claire needs to write "BREAKING BALLS, DUMBASS" on Flores' and the pitchers' gloves so they don't forget.

He also has a tidy 8:2 K:BB ratio.  As soon as he stops becoming hittable, there won't really be a way to deal with him.  The Nationals have a habit of making the most hittable pitchers look like Randy Johnson, so they'll certainly be the first team that can't hit against Nolasco.  Zimmerman and Flores especially have a habit of getting a ball right down the pipe that they can't even hit with the friggin bat.

5-2 Marlins

Or maybe someone needs to tattoo it to St. Claire's forehead.

yep. this one looks like a loss. I think Lannan will bounce back but our offense will go quiet against Nolasco.

5-2 Fish.

Here is Lannan's chart.  On pitch location, he needs to treat Bonifacio as a righty.  Consider the strike zone of the following grid layout:

1-2-3
4-5-6
7-8-9

He needs to bust him in within zones 4 and 7 until he has 2 strikes.  Zone 6 is the last place to pitch to him since he's a slap hitter looking for something to flare to left.  In fact, that's the only place Bonifacio has success, and it is Lannan's favorite place within the strike zone to pitch to lefties.  Put Lannan's righty chart up on Bonifacio, and he won't reach base.  Once 2 strikes are on Bonifacio, go to zones 1, 2, or 3 (or even higher than the strike zone) with a fastball and get the K.  If he avoids zone 6 and keeps Bonifacio off base, not even Hanley can drive him in.  Bonifacio was the difference in the game the first time Lannan faced the Marlins.

If all else fails, maybe Lannan could wear a Braves cap.

Considering what a terrible job the Nats' staff has done at scouting the Marlins, this may be Lannan's only hope.

Flores has been so crappy with the bat recently.  He really needs to step up, especially considering his back-up options aren't that great.

It's easy to forget that we actually hit him well when he pitched against us, since we lost the game 12-6.

The "improved" line up, the adrenaline from last night's win and the fact we actually hit Nolasco last time mixed with the fact we never do well against the Marlins leads me to predict the Nationals barely squeaking out a win:

Nats 5-4

“The win means a lot. It gets the monkey off our back right now,” Dukes said. “And just to feel more relaxed about yourself coming to the field—now we feel better as a team.”

Dukes is right! the Nats are going to flourish after getting that elusive first win out of the way. we must maintain the momentum vs the Marlins.
