After a 8.38 spring Yamamoto gets rocked in his regular season debut to only make it through an inning.   It's only one game, but that's got to be at least a little worrisome.

I see that The Fish are playing their ST games at the 'Roger Dean Stadium' - I assume it's adorned with airbrush painted, dream-like landscapes, with TV coverage provided by YES... ;)
That would actually be an upgrade. I've been to a lot of spring training games there, and it's one of the more ho-hum Grapefruit League stadiums these days. It's a fine place to see a game, but there's not a ton of character or above average amenities/food.

Yeah...it's pretty ho-hum indeed.  I heard the Tigers digs in Lakeland underwent an upgrade several years ago...it certainly needed it.  Yankees field in Tampa is OK.

I really liked Orlando when the Barves played there, but BotPB has it and all the other Florida facilities that I've seen beat, IMHO...I really like the Nats facility, especially since Viera was such a dump.  Also, it's very clean...lots of trash cans all over the Park.

Agreed. And we usually go out to Lakeland for a game every spring. It's a really nice facility. The food is good there, too—the peak of strawberry season is right around the end of February to the beginning of March, and they sell an awesome strawberry shortcake at the stadium.

I went to Lakeland a couple weeks ago.  Was nice but I don’t have anything to compare to.  There were placards there that said they were Grapefruit League Park of the year three of the last four seasons.  Have no idea who votes in that. Little Caesars pizza of course.

I could have added that the losing teams walk-off music would be 'Yours Is No Disgrace...'   ;)

of the ten MLB-phase Rule 5 picks this year, 4 have made the selecting teams' rosters, 1 has been returned, 2 open on the IL, and 3 men of mystery remain with their selecting team but have their fate uncertain, including Nunez.
Quote
The Guardians returned third baseman Deyvison De Los Santos to the D-backs over the weekend, while the Rockies (Anthony Molina), Red Sox (Justin Slaten), Royals (Matt Sauer) and Padres (Stephen Kolek) have already decided to carry their Rule 5 selections on the Opening Day roster. Others, such as White Sox lefty Shane Drohan (shoulder surgery) and Rangers righty Carson Coleman (Tommy John surgery) will open the season on the injured list.

Oakland’s Mitch Spence (selected from the Yankees), Washington’s Nasim Nunez (from the Marlins) and St. Louis’ Ryan Fernandez (from the D-backs) are all still in big league camp with the teams that selected them.

Yeah single. Sport, saw a ticker on a tv at a restaurant. Still, appropriate for Castellanos

Yankees announced that radio announcer John Stirling is retiring immediately due to health concerns. He's 85. The team will hold a ceremony to honor him on Saturday.  That's not good.

I saw some stats on Sterling: He has called 29.5% (5,420) of all Yankee games in team history, and nearly half (211) of their playoff games. He has been their radio voice for 64 years.

Went and read his bio in the MLB article. He has been with the Yankees since 1989. He did Atlanta Braves and Hawks before that. Also apparently one year as the Bullets radio announcer in 1981. Did not know that. I believe the 64 years is his entire broadcast career. Best wishes for him in retirement.

1989 makes more sense given the game numbers. Thanks.

The Rockies used Kyle Freeland, their top pitcher, as a pinch runner last night. He injured his arm/shoulder sliding into home.
