DC has seen a jump in violent crime including murders and carjackings in the last year. However most of the crime still is gang-related and happens in the NE and SE parts of the city. Hopefully things turn around.

Ohh that's a bummer, I couldn't tell DC had any violence by staying in the Navy Yards, it felt completely safe. But yeah I know it's only one of many neighborhoods. Hopefully things do get better.

Couldn't find a thread on ballpark food but taste of the majors is pretty good. Dog with kraut, pastrami, and grain mustard.

Not too many details yet, but this sounds like it's part of a package of improvements that were not unexpected. I know I'd seen lighting upgrades mentioned in the past as well, so we'll see:

There reportedly was a “keeping up with the Joneses” clause as some put it as part of the lease which included such improvements paid for by the city

I guess that area would of been developed to a certain extent without the stadium but that area has exploded as the place to be in DC due largely to the stadium being there. It's got to of brought in a ton of revenue.

Just got an email that I can go down to the ballpark tomorrow night to pick up my Red Carpet Rewards prizes. 24 hour notice of a two hour window to drive into the city to pick up a mini bat. I like the season plan holder prizes, but why even have the program in the off season if they are going to have so few prizes and make it tough to pick them up. Just allow us to roll over our points to 2024.

In fairness, they sent out an email with the 4 dates back in September. I kept it. This is the 2nd. Last 2 are 11/1 and 11/13. They had one a week or two ago.

They've done a really miserable job overall this year with the Red Carpet Rewards items, from the general lack of items to the bizarre valuations. 2,000 points for a coffee mug and 1,500 for a fanny pack is insane, considering how many fewer points I had to spend on some really nice things earlier in the season.

the fanny pack was 50 points in the regular season. I forget what the mug went for. Basically, those items are to mop up points from idiots like me. I think I still have 10,000+ unused points.

3,000 points for a Clint Robinson autographed baseball made me laugh a few weeks ago.

Yeah, I'll probably blow the remainder of our points on a coffee mug that I definitely don't want or need.

Ah, I should have paid more attention. In any case there is nothing available worth driving down to pick up.

It looks like they're in the process of replacing the field lighting at Nats Park. You can see that the old lights have been removed from at least a couple of the brackets down the first base side:

I'm guessing they'll be installing modern LED lighting, which about half of the MLB ballparks have at this point.

no more half hour delays while the lighting comes back up after a shut off?

Or someone suggested 'think how much electricity you'd save if you got rid of the lights...' :D   ;)

maybe they start doing pro wrestling-style entrances now?

Think about it, ninth inning, Nats up 1.....lights go off........lights come on and Finnegan is on the mound.

there should be a lift under the field and the closer should emerge on a platform that comes up right down the line beyond the dugout. With smoke.  They already have the music.

Maybe the Nats think that turning away from the light is just right for Halloween.... ;)
