Nationals @ Marlins, Game 1
« Topic Start: April 26, 2024, 06:35:01 PM »
                              Washington Nationals vs. Miami Marlins
LoanDepot Park - 7:10 PM EDT

Trevor Williams (RHP, 2-0, 2.91 ERA, 2.31 FIP) vs Anthony Maldonado (OP, RHP, 1st appearance) / Kyle Tyler (PP, RHP, 1st appearance)

Nationals
1. CJ Abrams (SS)
2. Jesse Winker (LF)
3. Joey Meneses (1B)
4. Luis Garcia (2B)
5. Keibert Ruiz (C)
6. Eddie Rosario (RF)
7. Joey Gallo (DH)
8. LaVictor Lipscomb (3B)
9. Jacob Young (CF)

Marlins
1. Luis Arraez (2B)
2. Bryan De La Cruz (DH)
3. Jazz Chisholm Jr. (CF)
4. Josh Bell (1B)
5. Jesus Sanchez (RF)
6. Tim Anderson (SS)
7. Nick Gordon (LF)
8. Vidal Brujan (3B)
9. Nick Fortes (C)

Two pitchers scheduled for the Marlins who have not pitched in the majors this year. Maldonado (26 y/o) has an awesome slider and not much else. Really is a middle inning guy. Tyler (27) is appearing in the majors for after cups of coffee with the Angels and Giants in 2021 and 2022. 4th organization in 4 years.

Battle for last place.  Marlins 13th in NL in runs scored, Nats 15th.  Perfect series for the pitchers to pound the zone and not worry about doing the Hickey Shuffle.

That 6/7 of Rosario / Gallo strikes fear in the hearts of fans. Not saying fans of which team

Can hope the lefties have luck against Maldnado's  slider. Draws some raves from Longenhagen at FG:

Quote
Anthony Maldonado had a very successful three-year run as a starter at Bethune-Cookman. His pro career began on a bit of a delay because of the pandemic and an injury that cost him a large chunk of 2021. He reached the upper levels of the minors in a relief role very quickly, and he’s been dominant from a bat-missing and strike-throwing standpoint for the last three campaigns, thanks largely to a plus-plus mid-80s slider that has huge vertical finish.

And then with Keibert behind them, three hitters in a row under the Mendoza Line.

Louie must hate getting base knowing what's following him.

well other than Rosario stealing a base, that was entirely predictable.

Gallo needs to stop swinging. We would be better off.

they have 3 outfielders now with Winker DH'ng.

If you want to say Adams should DH, then I'll listen, but it's righty starting and Ruiz is still coming back from the flu.

Decent hit by Trey. And perfect but by Young. Why does anyone criticize Keibert for working his way back from the flu? Most painful: losing Night Train Lane.

I missed it's Gallo DH'ng and Winker in left, but it's the same point. Especially with Senzel still sick.
