I reverse jinxed Senzel with his HR today, but my view remains that there should be more under 28's playing.

Interesting that Gallo's so messed up that they gave him a game off vs. a righty. At least we saw Vargas.

Darren Baker played in LF today in Rochester.  Wouldn't mind seeing him get a chance here.

He’s not playing ahead of Garcia or Winker.

He’s not playing ahead of Garcia or Winker.

But ahead of Meneses, Gallo, Vargas, and Senzel.

We're supposed to be rebooting, rebuilding, tanking, Rizzo'ing, or whatever, yet play a bunch of 30+ year olds who struggle to maintain .600 OPS'es.

after this weekend, do you really want Baker playing ahead of Meneses or Senzel?

Yes, no one's earned either role, going back to last year's failed experiment with Dom Smith.  Call up Yepez, Garrett, Wood, and one of Kieboom/Lipscomb/Baker, and shuffle some of the OFers to 1B and DH, and make Joey M. earn his spot as well   Granted none are all-stars, but with the team dead last in the NL in scoring, it wouldn't take much to get an improvement.

Right now, Nasim Nunez, Senzel, and Gallo are just burning up roster spots they haven't come close to earning.

Rosario is the one burning up the roster spot more than any.  He doesn’t ever walk, awful defensively, and can’t hit a lick

he's not a left side of the infield option. Can't play there even in the minors. The arm I don't think is there. You certainly can't start him at 3rd, and I don't think we want Vargas Every Day Every Play over seeing what Senzel can do. Conceivably, he could play left to push Winker to DH and Meneses and Gallo into a battle, but that's what Garrett will do when he replaces Rosario.

hard to argue Rosario is not the next logical one to go.

Gallo is currently hitting .134 with a .634 OPS. He has struck out 37 times in 67 ABs. Looking at https://www.mlb.com/player/joey-gallo-608336 he's not terribly off of his 2022 and 2023 performances.

He is at least getting on base (.348 OBP in his last 7 games).  Maybe pull a Schwarber and move him to leadoff?

Or just DFA him?

Give Gallo another two weeks and then DFA. Looks to me like he has put a swoop back into his swing. Briefly, he was swinging flat -- no kink -- but it is back. He is back to swing-and-miss and Ks. Give him a little time, but then drop him.

(Of course, the Nats should never have signed him...)

3 out of every 5 PAs ends with a K or a walk. That means 40% of his PAs end with contact. He "should" have a higher average on his contact but does not. Even with that, he needs to make more contact to be productive. His xBA and xwOBA are only .166 and .317. That'll take beyond luck to get to acceptable levels for a #6 or #7 hitter, let alone a guy who is hitting 3/4/5. He has to get his K% back to the 35% range of 2017-21, which would be down from the current 45%.

He's been really bad, but he should not be let go before Rosario who has somehow been even worse and probably Senzel.

Senzel should get some more time. Rosario should be gone. I'm not ready to give up on Gallo as he is at least getting on base and is a defensive asset.

he's really our best defensive player at corner OF and 1st, at least until both Crews and Wood are up (or Call, I suppose). Ideally, during the Thomas IL and before Garrett is up, Meneses shows he can handle 1st adequately and that that somehow helps his hitting, too, so Winker and Ruiz can get more time at DH. Upgrades the D quite a bit.

I like his -1 OPS+.  They need to keep playing him until he gets it back up over zero.

Joey Gallo is at 0.1 bWAR.  Rhys Hoskins is at 0.2. So we saved money.

Gallo would be a great DF (designated fielder).

An even better DFA...
