when have they done that before?  Looking at past years IF bench on OD:

I meant more from the "that's a crappy way to treat someone" kind of move. Kind of like how they did Lannan dirty. Idk. I just saw a similarly worded tweet and though it tracked in my head. Might be a mindfact.

Well, everyone needs to have a backup shortstop.  Backup shortstops essentially come in two varieties: guys who can hit, in which case they are play most days at other positions and play SS as needed, and Wilmer Difo types.  If a guy can both hit and play SS, he's not going to be a backup because he'll be a good defender anywhere but SS.  I think this is one of the hidden aspects of building an MLB roster that people don't appreciate.  When you're working with a long bullpen and a short bench, it helps a lot to not have to carry a Difo.  Look at last year's playoff teams and you'll see a common theme among the best ones: the backup SS is often a guy who plays regularly at other positions (Bregman, Chris Taylor, Brock Holt), which allows an extra guy on the bench who can contribute something in non-emergencies.

That's how Turner ended up in 2B and CF while Desmond was kicking the ball around enough to justify a move to the outfield.

I don't know why you'd play Kieboom at SS and Turner in the outfield when you're resting Eaton against lefties.  MAT is injured, not dead.   I don't think the offensive gain there is enough to offset the defensive loss, and the dude needs to get some ABs at some point.

That would be if Kieboom was looking like a breakout star like we saw from Turner as a rookie and Dozier also had rebounded and was hitting.  Just a way to get your best bats in the lineup.  I don't think it's a likely scenario.

Seems like a waste to burn an extra year of Robles and Noll on a lost season

Would select Williams over Miller. More potential there and I think he would step up to the opportunity.

We'll likely see plenty of Williams this year.

Yea, it's never the case that you can't find room for good relievers tearing it up in AA or AAA.  He'll get his chances.

Exactly.  That folks are obsessing over reserve players and low-level bullpen arms I guess is a good sign.  Whether we have Adrian Sanchez or Wilmer Difo on our bench is not going to be the difference between winning or losing the NL East.  Some folks just have odd obsessions I guess.

You just proved my point. I can’t tell who you are more obsessed with, me or Difo, but that you felt compelled to dig into my pat posts about Difo seems a bit off the rails.

Btw, only another day to get your 2019 predictions posted!

Decided to bump this.  Just so folks could remember how they saluted the same Nats offseason moves that they now say were terrible.
