I think we can all agree Abrams is the one reason to be excited about this upcoming season. He has the highest ceiling on the team. I hope he continues on an upward trajectory along with Gray, Gore, and Ruiz. I think those are the only players that will still be around when we usher in the new era. The rest of this roster is filler.
I am not sure I would sully his upward trajectory with a comp to Gray, Gore, and Ruiz. Whether he's a part of a contender depends on how quickly other chips fall into place (how quickly the window opens). There's still room for improvement, and I'd love to see him focus on OBP first offensively. He gets on, it is a double under the current rules.
No BS on that last point. Starting with 7/1, he had 80 hits, 29 for extra bases. That's 51 singles, and add in 23 walks and six HBP, so that roughly brings you back to 80 times on first. He stole 38 times. Some of those were 3rd base, some of those times on there was probably a runner on second, but still, he turned a time on into a double roughly half the time, and only had 2 CS.
