I thought their approach was poor and predictable. They chased tons of pitches against Gio even when he was struggling. Throw quality strikes that you want them to hit.

Our pitchers pitched scared, period.

Pitched terrified, as a matter of fact.

How can we be so close and then lose it like that. I can't believe that freaking happened. Drew couldn't make one pitch to freaking seal it. I mean are you kidding me.

Please, come on. How is this comparable? This was losing the clinching game in excruciating fashion, not a total team breakdown over the course of 3 games that led to a loss of team identity. I don't see that happening with this team.

We will see, won't we.

Braves would have swept us.

No way, we had the Braves early in that series.

But Medlen would have mowed through our line-up in game 3 and turned it around, so that series was a crapshow too.

I don't care about the 2nd Wild Card, the Nats should have been able to beat the Cardinals if they're so mediocre.

Yeah.  Good year only to be punched in the gut.  Enjoyed sharing it with you all, even this last brutal part.

Feel real bad for the diehard Nats fans out there. I've been a hardcore Caps fan for the last couple decades, and this loss hurt bad for me tonight.
DC is literally cursed.

This is all I'm worried about. Interesting to see how he rebounds next year.

I don't care about Storen anymore.  His confidence could be shot for life for all I care.  He might have killed baseball in this town.

Drew danced around the strike zone until it was too late and he had to make pitches and then the Cards got some solid hits.

He had Kozma down 0-2 after two good fastballs in the zone and then dicked around with a few pitches and then eventually left a fastball up in the zone over the plate that he could drive to right field.

Sad  :icon_frown: but it was a GREAT Season we finished 1st in the division and we made it to the Postseason for the first time for this franchise in DC and in ages for a DC team at all.

Everybody sing along:

Considering this IS DC sports, there's obviously a chance you're right. We all know a complete team breakdown is possible and my argument will be wrong.

if anything, this team will come back with a gigantic chip on their shoulders. But, a couple of arms must go. Sometimes you have to look deeper than the just the numbers

I agree about the WC. Doesn't bother me a bit. I was actually more afraid of the Braves. I guess it doesn't matter now.

There was one pitch that I thought could have been called a strike 3 to end the game but it was kind of outside and there would have been a lot of talk about it if the ump made the call. So he erred on the side of caution and let it be a ball.

Other than that, the pitches from Storen were missing pretty significantly. Some were good sliders that broke out of the zone but the Cards just weren't biting for some reason.

Hopefully, this just makes them hungry and they learn from this.

Hopefully Davey, Jackson, and Storen don't get to learn from this since they would be gone.

I'm personally looking forward to Bryce Harper putting up a better season than Mike Trout next season, but it's hard to think about that too much right now.

Why is this team so freaking awful with large leads? This game is reminiscent of the 9-0 lead blown vs the Braves. The players were all so fired up early in the game after going up by 6 and it seemed like they just wanted to coast the rest of the way. Why didn't they learn their lesson from the 9 run collapse.

I don't hate Storen or anything, but the hell with his dad.  Your son isn't the wonderful little prince of everything you thought he was; stop ragging on Nats fans for getting emotional.

No Manager of the year for Davey.  He called himself out of it during this game...

Yeah, no problem with the ump. He called a tight zone for both teams. Nats were obsessed with trying to paint the corners.
