Zito has been a different pitcher in August, and he continued to put up impressive
numbers in his last start. Zito threw 105 pitches over seven innings while holding the
Rockies to one run, a homer that Brad Hawpe hit off him in the fifth inning. Zito struck
out seven in the outing. Over his last three starts Zito has posted a 1.33 ERA and
average against and has now strung together four consecutive quality starts.
Chico was 5-7 with a 4.96 ERA in 25 starts before being optioned to Columbus on
August 17. He made a pair of Triple-A starts, tossing six scoreless innings against
Louisville on Aug. 22, and giving up four runs in five innings on Monday at Indianapolis.
Chico, 24, was the only Nationals starter to not miss a turn in the rotation, until he was
optioned.
