Lidge is such a bum. It's embarrassing that we still have him on the roster.

Lidge's presence on our roster is what most establishes that the Yankees are better.

Blargh.  Harper ends the day 0-7.  Nats lose a tough one (thanks in large part to a blown call at home plate).
Bench him on Sunday.

He can spend the game admiring the Yankees players' autographs he probably collected.

1 for 11 in 2 games against his favorite team, the Yankees, including 6 strikeouts, zero walks.  Batting .091.

Harper tried WAY too hard today.  Zero plate discipline.

No, I'm getting fed up with the same old bullcrap. The moment Lidge went in I knew this game was over. If I a freaking fan knows it's done, then so should the "manager." I'm getting sick of simpleton baseball moves and play.

His final AB against Pettitte was actually really nice. Before that he was overmatched and afterward he was too pissed to hit well.

Maybe. But you can't see this season has been "the same old bullcrap". We've played like one of the best teams in baseball so far.

Have they played better than in years past? Yes, absolutely, but they still can't get away from some of their stupid mistakes. It's one thing to have a bad game batting, pitching etc, but keeping players up like HRod who proved for almost two months he couldn't pitch is STUPID. Obviously he's gone now, which is good, but it never should have taken that long.

How much longer do they keep Lidge around? I'm saying at least the rest of the month, possibly half of July.

Lidge should be DFA'd ASAP.  Dude has proven he's worthless.

Agreed.  IMO the Nats have played the yankees even.  Brad Lidge is the difference maker (in a negative way).

If we'd had an average reliever in place of Brad Lidge, we could have won both of these games.

When it's about 25,000 Yankee fans, not much to be boasting about.

That would be the answer to a gameday thread prayer.
I've followed these worthless slobs since 2005, but it's about to end real freaking soon.

As I'm sure yours is to see the team win. Looks like neither of us are going to get our wish.

I have followed this team since 2005. I have followed the Nats since I was old enough to understand that they were our team...around 1952 or 1953. This 2012 team is, sentiments aside, probably third best in baseball, and getting better. The Dodgers were better, by a bit, and the Yankees are better by a smaller margin.

The Nats will improve as the season goes on: Storen returns mid-season, Werth might be back by mid-August, and the young position players will hit better.

And the stands looked overwhelmingly red to me, watching the NY broadcast.

Watched the games today from various locales.    The Yankees are a better team at this point.   I feel bad for Lidge.   I keep seeing Willie Mays falling down rounding third with the Mets (I think).   His best days were behind him and he didn't know how to walk away.    Each Yankee hitter looks like a linebacker.   The really nice thing was no matter where we stopped on our ride, the Nats were on.   We're gonna break out.   Enjoy the ride  ....

It's hard not to be down after these two Yankee losses.  We come home after two straight sweeps, attendance is real high, weather is perfect, we have two great pitchers pitching and what happens?  Our offense shuts down and our defense, while stunning in some plays, falls apart in others.  Lidge is the goat but when guys like Zimmerman and Morse aren't hitting and errors are committed on defense by Desmond and others, he's not the only problem.  Plus the umpire's call at the plate really makes me angry.  There's no reason why instant replay shouldn't be used in run-scoring plays.  In the end, I believe the Nats were intimidated by the Yankees.  Harper hasn't looked this bad until today.  All in all, a very disappointing series which points out some shortcomings.  Maybe we'll redeem ourselves tomorrow but the last two games have put a pall on my enthusiasm.

Being in the stands today was brutal. For those who say the stands were mostly red, well let me tell you I felt like I was at Yankee Stadium. Truly embarrassing. I'm not from DC and drove from out of state for this game, but to see the Yankees absolutely take over our park was really shocking. I'm not calling out the locals, but wow it was just something that you rarely see where the visiting team had an advantage in the home teams park.

Also, I too knew that when Lidge came in the game was over. I would've went with Gonzalez regardless of lefty/righty matchups. However the Yankees are a REALLY good team, and you can't give really good teams extra outs, and they did what really good teams do...they capitalized on those.

Let's get a Curly W tomorrow and move on.

Freak.   I hope the suite I'm in tomorrow isn't full of Yankee fans.    That will suck.

We won the game in the bottom of the 8th and the umpire hosed us, I get that it happens but it also burnt our pen as well as giving us the loss.
