Bump.     ;)

Not sure if anyone had replied yet or not.

I took the metro in, so I can't comment except for the metro was packed and very loud with "Let's Go Yankee" chants.

We won the game in the bottom of the 8th and the umpire hosed us, I get that it happens but it also burnt our pen as well as giving us the loss.

Saw that play in Leesburg on my sojourn.    Don't know how he missed it.   It was clearly 6 or more inches from the tag to the touch of home.

Tim Timmons should be FIRED!!!!

Why would he be fired?  He accommodated the New York Yankees.  That's considered a good thing by MLB.

Video of the play:

This one (YES feed) shows a much better angle.  Too bad MASN is always so eager to go to commercial that they can't show a decent replay on an inning-ending play.

really frustrating loss today, i got to watch a few innings, listen to a few on the radio, and follow the last 3 via mlb.com.   The play at home looks close enough that I can't complain, it was a perfect throw.

Hopefully we can play bizzaro game three of our usual sweep game (Toronto/Boston not withstanding).

The problem with the "close call" idea is that Tim Timmons can't call it a close call.  He has to call it safe or out and he called it out despite the fact that he couldn't have seen him as out...because he wasn't.  Now we have to wonder why he called him out.  If it was a "close call", why didn't he call him safe?  Thee was some sort of predisposition or disposition to call him out.  Hell, look at where Moore could have been tagged, around the midsection.  Just from the place of the supposed tag, it would have been likely, even if you couldn't see it, that his hand would have touched the plate first.

It is pretty obvious that he was safe.

This is another reason why the human element needs to go and have replay for things like this.

Timmons is looking right at Moore's hand as well and still calls him out.  Safe to say he sucks hard at his job.

Pettite the cheaters slider is unhittable. Bryce knew it was coming and still swung at it.

Seeing that picture makes me furious. How can you possibly miss that. I can see how I, sitting in section 417, could think he was out...but WOW that is pathetic.

Hence why I've been wanting him nut-shotted for the last ten pages or so.

The catcher has not made the tag, Moore's hand is on the plate, the umpire is right there inches away and still misses the call.  How is that even possible?   :idiot:

I'm watching the Rays-Marlins game and it's in the 14th inning.  The FOX announcer just talked about the umpires, specifically the home plate umpire, standing out there for all of these innings and not sitting down for an of the half innings.  That's another reason for Timmons to call Moore safe, to END THE DAMN GAME!  The game could have ended in 9 innings instead of 14.  But, I guess, a 9 inning game where Moore is called safe doesn't have an envelope stuffed with Steinbrenner cash at the end of it.

From the AP report:

Quote
Wise, who had just moved to right field from left field in a double switch for LaRoche's at-bat, charged the ball and threw out Moore on a close play at home. Replays appeared to show that Moore's hand slapped the plate just ahead of catcher Russell Martin's tag.

"I don't want to say it, but, you know, I made a good throw," Wise said with a laugh. "The umpire says he was out, so that kept us going. That's the main thing -- you make it close, you never know what might happen."

At least DC United won yesterday (1-nil at Philly)...as with the Mystics on Friday, often our 'niche league' teams save the day while our 'big league' teams come up a day late and 64p short.

Human eyes can't focus on two spots at once, this is a stupid debate. There's no conspiracy, only human error. All the more reason for Robot Umpires.
