What's really wild is the stadium where the HOF game is played is used by Canton McKinley HS (sits next to the stadium).   They play HS football against teams like Massilon, Niles, Alliance and Warren  ...  plus a lot of the Youngstown schools.     Some pretty high powered football and basketball people played there   ...  Paul Warfield, Lenny Dawson, Phil Hubbard and a plethora of famous coaches.

Oh yeah, and the O'Jays.    :)
Enjoyed the Hall. Saw the stadium next door. One of the workers was telling us about induction week and crazy it gets. And all the HOfers who come back and you can meet.

Rock and Roll HOF was good to see again. This morning was the Henry Ford Museum of Innovation in Dearborn. That had some neat stuff. They also had a tour of a Ford plant but we decided to head to Detroit. Lunch in Greektown and the walked to the GM Renaissamce Center. Also walked the riverfront on the Windsor side tonight.

When I'm with my wife on vacation she wears me out with the shopping. Son has worn me out with walking!

Been a darn good week for weather. Sunny and upper 70s/low 80s. Tigers game tomorrow.

Tickets weren't cheap in Stub Hub. Sawx Nation must be in town and driving up the prices. Was hoping to see Jordan Z but it someone named Boyd. David Price for Boston.

If you're in Canton, OH I hope you got a chance to see some of the William McKinley stuff! One of our nation's most underrated presidents.

Another excellent place to visit in Canton is Gervasi Vineyard. We stayed in one of the villas last October and it was outstanding, really nice place to stay and both restaurants were very good. We still have one bottle of wine left, saving it for when I grill some porterhouses.

Heading home from Italy tomorrow.  Can’t wait to return.  It seemed that every meal was fantastic, inexpensive, and accompanied by wonderful wine.

I get home Sunday afternoon and the fly to CA on Monday. :(.

I feel like in two weeks we’ve barely scratched Italy’s surface.

Nothing like getting shoved into a cattle car (aka “people mover”) at Dulles after arriving in the US from a 9.5 hour flight. Sigh...

A couple of Nats' related notes:
- we saw the same guy wearing an Expos hat in three different cities, chatted with him each time, it became comical the third time we ran into him.  We agreed to meet again in Montreal when they get another team

- we brought gifts:

Cool.  I remember going to Montreal as a kid with the family right around when the Expos started at Jarry Park--it was cold at night and I was the only one who wanted to go to a baseball game.  So I was outvoted.  Still pissed about that!

Mini vacation starting today with son. In place of the national parks trip. Pro Football Hall today and then Rock and Roll Hall tomorrow (my second time for that this summer!). On to Windsor/Detroit after that. Hope to take in the Tigers/Sawx game Friday night.

We spent an afternoon last week at the Pro Football HOF in Canton.  Well worth it.  I had forgotten all about the Frankfort Yellowjackets who played in my old Philly hood--before my time but Mitlen and some others probably saw them play.  I had forgotten how many great players had played for the Eagles in their last year or so and well past their prime.  Such as Richard Dent and James Lofton.  Son did not know Sonny Jurgenson had played for Philly; I did not recall seeing him play but told him all about the trade and Norm Snead.  Snead was a decent QB and played a long time but he was no Sonny.  The highlight for me was the Road to the Super Bowl film--highlighted the 2017 season and playoffs and then extensive highlights from the Super Bowl--skippy, JCA and some others would have enjoyed it greatly as I know I did.  I purchased tickets on line for the Football and Rock and Roll Halls which saved a few bucks.

Second trip to the Rock and Roll was fun and had a chance to read up on some of the displays I did not the first time around.  Nuff said about Rock and Roll for today.

We drove by Sandusky Ohio on the way to Detroit.  Not sure how the beaches were there but the Cedar Point amusement park is there for those of you who have youngins.  My 30 year old son told me he now gets sick on any amusement park rides--which I do also.  I hope he appreciates all the rides I went on with him when he was young despite my motion sickness--luckily I never threw up although some ride at the Prince William County Fair one year almost did the trick.

We stayed overnight in Toledo--have a friend who lives there part of the year but he was out of town.  Hope to meet up with him later in August.  The Mud Hens were in town but we checked in late so no Triple A game.

Next day we went to the Henry Ford Museum of Innovation--I got the senior rate even though I am not yet 62--never hurts to ask for a discount.  Museum was an interesting place for the cars of course and Ford history but also other memorabilia on various topics.  They had some old locomotives.  also aircraft and the original Rosa Parks bus.  We didn't go to any of the other tours at the complex as we wanted to move on to Detroit that afternoon.  There is a factory tour where they build F-150 trucks--would like to do that or some equivalent tour some day.

In Detroit, we parked at the Greektown Casino (free parking) and had lunch there.  Some good Greek food as you would expect on the one block that makes up Greektown.  A Five Guys and a Cold Stone Creamery has also snuck in the block--progress.  Strolled down to the GM Center and walked through there and the Waterfront.  Weather was really great most of the week--high 70s and low 80s and sunny--can;t beat that.  We stayed in Windsor--a bit cheaper.  Walked around Casears Casino some.  Not much else to see in Windsor itself.

Next day we headed to Point Pelee National Park on Lake Erie in Ottawa.  A small park.  Apparently a mecca for the birders and the Monarch butterflies also migrate through there at some time of the year.  On the marsh walk we saw red breasted blackbirds (noisy) and marsh wrens.  I know we saw many other birds but have no idea what they were.  There are red headed woodpeckers there but did not see or hear any.  Also bald eagles but did not see them either.  There is a ferry boat to Pelee Island that is supposed to be nice but the weather started to get bad so we headed back to Windsor after the morning.  Stopped and had some fresh perch for lunch--perch is really bland. Or at least what we had.

I will update for the Tigers game in the Out of Town Ball parks thread.

All in all a good trip--weather was great for this time of year.  That usually does not happen on my vacations.

Tommy Boy. With Chris Farley.

There's an Easter egg in the movie "50 First Dates" related to Tommy Boy.  The brain injury clinic in Hawaii is called the Callahan Institute, and at one point Dan Akroyd explains it was funded by TB Callahan of Sandusky, OH.

Thanks.     Don't think I've ever seen a Farley movie, or anything else for that matter.

With my most recent trip completed yesterday, I have now had three opportunities this year to experience the wonderful phenomenon known as TSA Precheck. (The reason I came so late to this phenomenon was that until earlier this year, none of the airlines I fly participated in this programme - you have to fly on a participating airline and BA and KLM didn't join till earlier this year.)

The story so far:

First usage (international departure at Dulles) - went off without a hitch, walked right through

Second usage (international-to-domestic transfer between two Skyteam airlines at JFK) - whoever was in charge said the TSA Precheck was taken off (which they can do - see TSA website) and everybody had to go through regular security; what saved me from a 200-deep security queue was that some nice person at check-in somehow decided to award me 'Sky Priority' status and I went through relatively quickly (albeit with usual JFK rudeness and neurotic behaviour - the only reason I was using JFK was because my original flight back to Dulles was cancelled due to an airline strike; JFK international arrivals is a nightmare I would not wish on anyone).

Third usage (international departure at Dulles) - Wasn't quite the romp the first one was (this time they were culling people who had coins in their pocket and I had coins in my pocket so had to go through a bit longer procedure (without prior announcement of same). Per the TSA site they change things round like this regularly.

So on the three showings thus far TSA Precheck is, in my experience, not quite the waltz-through-security those commercials on FM-106.7 describe, but on the whole (when it is in operation) it is quicker. (To be perfectly honest my experience with regular Dulles security has not been all that onerous; probably something to do with my preference for Tuesday departures and mid-afternoon bag drops, which generally enable me to go through security before the late-afternoon 'prime time'.) My next opportunity to try this will be in November when I take my annual London trip.

---

On the other hand - Global Entry, of which I have been a member for nearly four years, is absolutely the real deal...in just this short time it's saved me from several triple-digit passport-control queues (including one yesterday) and from a Dulles customs queue in July 2016 that stretched the full length of the baggage claim hall and doubled back on itself twice. It's probably the best $100 I've ever spent on a travel-related expence (must remember to renew by my birthday next year).
