Just got in from seeing "The Rum Diary". I really enjoyed it. For me and the life I've had, there were a lot of laughs. I guess it's a niche flick for the initiated. I'm beginning to think Depp is the Jack Nicholson of this film era. Never paid much attention to him until my son had his Pirates series on the TV. I told someone at work Depp reminded me of an effeminate alpha dog in the Pirates. In this movie, he's gonzo all the way. His character is Paul Kemp. The character Mo Berg is funny as hell. He's Rev Jim Ignatowsky like (more devilish). If you're over 60 or so, you'll laugh your ass off. I give it 4 stars.
The hook for me was the second scene when Kemp (Depp) enters the newsroom for the first time. It's 1960 and the sport's guy is talking about Roberto Clemente. I never looked back.
