Saw The Ides of March tonight... It was OK, but I didn't think it was great. Not that big into bullcrap political movies though, but there wasn't much else to chose from. PSH was as you'd expect though... and it was a pretty well acted movie, but I'm not a critic.

Just saw "Drive" tonight.  I thought Refn had hit his absolute peak with "Pusher 3: I am the Angel of Death" but all I can say is wow.  Just totally a bad azz film from start to finish with an absolutely amazing score and soundtrack.

Really want to see that one. Also, did you hear a woman in Michigan sued the studio because she thought there wasn't enough driving?

Quote
According to a report from Detroit TV station WDIV, found via Gawker, a woman named Sarah Deming filed the suit against both Film District, the studio that distributed “Drive,” and Emagine Novi, the company that operates the multiplex where she, apparently, really did not enjoy seeing “Drive.”

She claims that the trailer for the film misled the public by implying that “Drive” would be a joy ride a la “The Fast and the Furious.” Instead, as court documents note, Deming discovered that there is “very little driving in the motion picture.”

Think I have to see "The Rum Diary" for a whole lot of reasons.    Hope to see it on Friday ...  working nights this week ought to give me a chance to see a matinee show.   Hell, I might even ask for the senior citizen discount.

What's it about ?

Originally a book by Hunter Thompson (wild journalist from the 50-60 era).    It's about the goings on of a guy in PR, drinking rum, chasing women, etc.   Johnny Depp is the star.

PS   It's my understanding the "Uncle Duke" character in Doonesbury is based on Hunter Thompson.

Just got in from seeing "The Rum Diary".   I really enjoyed it.   For me and the life I've had, there were a lot of laughs.   I guess it's a niche flick for the initiated.   I'm beginning to think Depp is the Jack Nicholson of this film era.   Never paid much attention to him until my son had his Pirates series on the TV.   I told someone at work Depp reminded me of an effeminate alpha dog in the Pirates.   In this movie, he's gonzo all the way.   His character is Paul Kemp.     The character Mo Berg is funny as hell.    He's Rev Jim Ignatowsky like (more devilish).   If you're over 60 or so, you'll laugh your ass off.   I give it 4 stars.

The hook for me was the second scene when Kemp (Depp) enters the newsroom for the first time.   It's 1960 and the sport's guy is talking about Roberto Clemente.    I never looked back.

My buddy lent me a movie (documentary) ... "Restrepo".    It's the story of an infantry unit in the Korengal Valley in Afghanistan.    See it.   It's real.

Definitely, though it is a bit much at time.  Sebastian Junger (researched and wrote "The Perfect Storm") was involved so it had to be good.

It is a lot to take in.   I waited 4 weeks to look at it.   You gotta be in a proper frame of mind or it will freak you up.

It's excellent. You will be in an altered mood, though, after you see it, with a whole new appreciation for the folks over there now.
