at least we got 1.. we are going to need a lot though with Speigner pitching

This post may turn out to be prophetic. We'll see if they can take advantage of this mess Speigner has created for himself.

Speigner can't throw a breaking pitch to save his life.

That was the only ball not hit hard the entire inning.

If that obvious strike had been called, the inning could have looked entirely different.

I don't get why we keep sending him out there every 5 days.  He never gives us a chance to win and we always have to burn through our already depleted pen when he pitches.  I'd take anyone in AAA or AA over this guy.

What's up with not being able to get Pujols out with any consistency? It's like he hits .748 against us.

You would think they'd study him and have a plan.
With TWO OUTS, Speigner gives up 2 singles and a walk.
Edmonds singled to right, Pujols and Spiezio scored, Rolen to third.

Nationals 1
Cardinals 2

This is a Sportsman882 moment...

Thompson's pitch count is actually higher than Speigner's.

What! We'll take it. I guess it's asking too much but that wasn't far from getting him to third.

I think I would too, and I don't like starting Bowie either, but he did all we could expect last night.  Speigner is in over his head.  Fortunately for us, so is Thompson.  Speigner strikes out, passed ball, takes 2nd on a wild throw to 1st base.     We're playing the Bad News Bears

I guess he was slated as a reliever? It's hard to believe we'd take a starting pitcher rule V...
Flores was a deal, but Speigner...
Isn't he a rule V player?

It's ok to take few pitches, especially after a wild pitch.  Cripes!!!

I don't know what we ever saw in Speigner.  The guy can't pitch at all.
