Not sure I get the point here...

Milone has already been traded. Is the point that we should have traded Lannan to Oakland? Oakland wants young, cheap, cost controlled players. Lannan's $5m salary doesn't fit their needs. So, what's the point of this poll?

I'm still not sold on Milone.

This year, Milone is being really helped by his pitcher friendly home park. Look at his road-home splits.

I'll take Lannan.  Consistent major-league performer with a career ERA under 4.00.

I'm not sure either, but I THINK it may be asking, what if, hypothetically, Oakland would have taken Lannan instead of Milone.  Would we have preferred that.  (Again, completely hypothetical.)

And my answer would be, absolutely.   For one thing, there is no way Lannan is back next year.  So we lose him anyway.  Milone, we would have control over.

Oh, if we're living in the hypothetical world of what Oakland would have taken, I'd have traded them Jason Simontacchi, Nook Logan and Jason Bergmann for Gio.  Milone AND Lannan AND Gio FTW!!11!

I am continually amazed by the sheer number of posters on this site who think that they are too good for John Lannan.

I don't even know what that means, but it's a completely moot point.  Lannan will have two or three more (regular season) starts, will not pitch in the postseason, and then he's gone.

I don't dispute this, but so many posters on this site have nothing but hate and vitriol for John Lannan.

There is a difference between saying "John Lannan is the 6th most talented starter on this team, and we don't need him at his price", which is fine, and saying "he sucks I would rather have a corpse"

I'm not certain Lannan is gone:

- Detwiler has his good moments and his awful moments. Lannan might be better.

- Jackson has talent, but sometimes he loses it, and we don't know where he will pitch next season

- Which starter above Potomac looks good enough to win a spot in the majors?

I'm not saying any of these things, and I have no hate for him (though no particular love, either).  I'm saying he won't be here because the bridge has been burned - at both ends.   I think that Lannan and Rizzo dislike each other so much now that they would not be able to talk.

Something else interesting about the Gio trade; it directly led to Kurt Suzuki being rendered obsolete in Oakland and shipped here. So it was basically Gio and Kurt for the prospects package.
