Arrieta, like McDonald has really dropped his BB/9 this year from 4.45 in 2011 to 2.23 in 2012.

Unlike McDonald, Arrieta has been touched up with the home run ball at 1.30 per nine.

Basically, if we can get a couple runners on base, Arrieta will likely give up multi-run bombs. If not, he'll give up a few solos here and there, but keep the Birds in it.

I expect EJ to have a good showing tonight.

Arrieta has given up 13 ERs in his last 2 starts, going a total of 10 innings.  Hopefully the streak continues.

I usually feel the other way with the Nats. If a guy is coming in off a couple of bad outings, I'm worried the Nats will get him back on track.

For 1st time in 42 years, winning baseball teams from Washington and Baltimore will meet on the field.

Man I hope we can hold our own in this series and take 2 of 3. All 3 of the pitching matchups are fairly even.

Game 1: Arrieta has shown great stuff this year and has the ability to dominate. He also tends to blow up at times and can get rattled. Edwin Jackson has been HR prone lately and hasn't won a start in over a month. That said he hasn't been terrible and generally keeps the team in the game.

Game 2: In game 2 we have Detwiler on the mound who has given up 3+ in 3 of his last 4 starts. He's been striking out fewer batters than he did early in the season and giving up more hits. I don't like his chances against their powerful lineup. Jason Hammel is pitching for the O's and he has been rock solid all year posting a quality start in 5 of 7 outings. He throws strikes and doesn't give up many hits and has thrived with the change to the AL.

Game 3: In game 3 we have Strasburg on the mound who will surely be fired up to make good after his dreadful start vs San Diego. This will be a really good test for Stephen and see if he can handle adversity. The O's are throwing the rookie Wei-Yin Chen who has been nothing short of amazing. I think most people thought he would only be a #5 starter at best who tops out in the 80s but he has shown so much more than that. I have seen a few of his starts and he has a really sneaky fastball that can touch in the low 90s and he complements that with a good array of offspeed stuff. In his last two starts he has defeated both the Rangers and the Yankees while going at least 7 innings in each game. He is the opposing pitcher I am most afraid of dominating us in this series.

Reminds me of Bruce Chen... with better "stuff".

...the first of those starts, however, was against Texas (surrendered the first two of Hamilton's four two-run shots, plus a solo shot to Beltre)...the Texas offence has made a lot of pitchers look bad this season.

For those going tonight: Capital Weather Gang's NatCast has 'With barely any breeze and no real chance of rain, our "home teams" match-up tonight with some great weather! Consider a light jacket in case the game goes long, as temperatures might dip toward 60.' with 1% chance of precip.

...also remember there's a whole lotta Metro track work going on again this weekend: http://www.wmata.com/about_metro/news/PressReleaseDetail.cfm?ReleaseID=5226 (Green*, Orange and Red lines affected).

*northern end of line - Navy Yard not directly affected

Sure hope you're right.  Losing to the Pirates last nite (stranding runners in scoring position) has left a bad taste in my mouth.

I hope it's a freakin sweep of the birds.  their fans have been so annoying recently.

Like Linty said, I think E-Jax does well tonight, but I don't know if we get the win.  Detwiler is due for a good game (and I think he's undefeated when pitching on Fox, no joke), but I just don't have faith in him these days.  Chen will be tough for our hitters, but I don't see Strasburg losing.

I think tonight could be the deciding game in the series.

i would love to sweep these bastards, hit the road to philly in first place coming off our first sweep.

Great...that means he will no hit us for something like 4 or 5 innings. We'll score a couple on their bullpen, but lose 5-2 or something like that.

Edwin is showing up big time tonight and we're taking this game. Zim is going yard to show that he's still better than Wright.

If anybody yells "oh" during the National Anthem, knock 'em the freak out.    IMHO that's worse than anything Phillies fans do.    I can understand being an ignorant ass like Phillies people but not the "oh" bullcrap.

My daughter's boyfriend is a big-time Os fan. Fortunately, my daughter is a righteous D.C. suburbanite, and hates the Birds.

He may have convinced her to consider being a Ravens fan. I don't care about that. But if he tries to sway her to the Os, there will be trouble.

Don't go to a Caps game.

Haven't been to one in probably 20 years.   Had partial season tickets at one time.   Maybe (as Dylan said) "I'm too sensitive or else I'm gettin' soft" but it irritates the hell out of me.
