clippers have a doubleheader. hopefully dukes can put on an impressive show and finally get the freaking  call-up for the marlins series. he's healthy, call him up!

Yeah, but he can't hit consistently worth crap. He'd be no better than the bums we have in outfield currently.

Games for 5/7/2008
It was a rough day for the Minor Leaugue Teams today, well, for those that played...

Columbus Clippers - Rain Out - Game to be made up 5/8/2008 for a double header.  "Let's Play Two!"

Harrisburg Senators - Defenders 3 Senators 2 - RHP Tristen Crawford (1-0 4.15 ERA) had a no-decision on a six inning a one walk, six strike out and 5 hits performance. Justin Maxwell hit a single HR to tie the game at 1-1 and increased the lead to 2-1 on an Ian Desmond sac fly.  Reliever Josh Perault gave the lead up in the 7th with a no-out runners on 2nd and 3rd RBI single to tie the game at 2-2. Reliever Beltran Perez gave up a 9th inning HR to lose the contest 3-2.

Potomac Nationals - Pelicans 11 P Nats 5 - P Nats were clobbered Wednesday 11-5 courtesy of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.  Starter Jhnonny Nunez (0-4) and reliever Clint Everts combined for 10 earned runs (5 each).  Chris Merrero homered with a man on board, adding to his HR total (5), putting him in a 4 way league tie.

Hagerstown Suns - off

Dukes went 1/2 with an RBI single, run, and a walk in the first game of the doubleheader.

However he committed 2 errors in the 7 inning shortened game, 1 throwing and 1 catching.  :?

Its great to see Marrero showing some power again, he needs to clearly change his approach at the plate right now but I think, he should bounce back if he doesnt, he will learn with the quality of pitching in the Carolina league.

Langerhans got an RBI single and Dubois hit a 3-run HR in the first inning of the second game of the double-header. 4-0 Columbus after 1.  Dukes walked and scored on the blast. Hopefully that's all the support that Clip needs.

No its not.  Dukes is an awful fielding outfielder.  He is basically Milledge out there.

Clippard pulled in favor of Bacsik after the 5th inning and only 84 pitches. Final line: 5IP 4H 2ER 2R 2BB 5SO.

It puzzles me that they pulled him when he went 1-2-3 in the 5th inning and only needed 13 pitches to do it.

Are you implying he's next on the promotion list?

lmfao you've seen him play like maybe 5 times in his whole career, and the only stat you know is that he hit 10 HRs last year.

wtf do you know about what is "uncharacteristic" of him?

Not at all, just questioning why Foli has such a short leash on his starters. Clip was pitching well, so why pull him? In favor of Mike Bacsik on top of that.

It's gotta be a FO thing. All of our teams are doing that. It's ridiculous, IMO.

Who said Daniel had no pop?   He went 3/5 today with a 2-run Shot. Mike has 9 hits in his last 14 ABs and is now hitting .339.  :worship:

Games for 5/8/2008
Clippers remain HOT, while the Senators stay cold...

Columbus Clippers - Double header - Red Wings 1  Clippers 5 / Red Wings 4  Clippers 6 - The Clippers (20-15) are now tied for second in the division thanks to a 4 game sweep of the Red Wings.
First Game:  Starter Collin Balester improved to 3-2 (3.41 ERA) as he pitched a one run gem in six innings of work.  Good hitting, smart base running and some defensive errors helped the Clippers to a three run 3rd inning which gave them a 3-0 lead and held it through the end of the 7 inning game. SS Olmedo got two hits, 2 runs one HR.  Elija Dukes committed two errors, both on the same play, but also scored thanks to a stolen 2nd base that allowed Dukes to score after a Alex Escobar single.
Second Game: The Clippers sprinted to a 4-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a 1B Jason Dubois 2run HR, who also got a second HR in the 5th, scoring a total 4 RBI's.  Tyler Clippard (2-3 4.34 ERA 4 Hits 5 SO) got the win in 5 innings of work.
Note:  Clippers are on a 7 game winning streak, are 9-1 in their last 10, and only two teams have more wins int he Int'l League.  There were 5 games scheduled against the Red Wings, but only 4 were played.  Make up date TBD.

Harrisburg Senators - Defenders 9 Senators 5 - Shairon Martis (2-1 3.38 ERA) took the loss on 9 hits 4 earned runs in  and 7 SO's five innings.  RF Mike Daniel (.339) provided the only sign of consistent offense with 2 runs, 3 hits and 3 RBI's and a 2 run home run in the 9th inning.  Justin Maxwell went 1 for 5 (.214), Ian Desomnd batted 0 for 4 (.207). The Senators have dropped three in a row.

Potomac Nationals - Kingston Indians 6 P Nats 4 - Terrance Englas picked up the loss (0-2 10.8 ERA 4.2 IP 5 Hits 4 Runs 6 SO) in a game that offered little offense until the 7th inning.  2B Matt Rogelstad (.297) went 2 for 5 on 2 hits and 2 RBI's.  Chris Marrrero went 0 for 3 and a HBP.

Hagerstown Suns - Game PPD

Mike Daniel hit a clutch, 2-out, 3-run Triple in the top of the 9th with his team trailing 3-1 to give them a 1-run lead. Zinicola held on for the save with a scoreless bottom of the 9th.

Daniel has 4 straight multi-hit games and is 11/19 with 6 RBIs in that stretch. His batting average is up to .341 and his OBP is at .391.

According to many in the front office, Daniel is the best pure hitter in the system.

Mike Daniel was originally drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 19th round of the 1998 Draft, but didn't sign with Texas. The Nationals drafted him in the 7th round of the 2005 Draft.

Texas drafted him when he was 14? huh? Must be a mistake.

Baseball cube has him being drafted by Texas in '98 and the Nats in '05. The Mike Daniels the Rangers drafted was a pitcher from Lambuth College (now Lambuth University) the alma mater of Ray King!

Columbus Clippers - Iron Pigs 3  Clippers 6 - The Clipper's (21-18) 27 year old Bobby Brownlie (1-0) won his first game as a Clipper, and his first start after being promoted from Harrisburg.  He also went 2 for 2 scoring an RBI.  His pitching stats: four hit ball with 5.2 IP, 7 SO, all with a 0.00 ERA.  2B Pete Orr swung a hot bat going 4 for 5, with an RBI and two runs.  Langerhans and Olmedo also had two hits each.  The score was 6-0 at the top of the 8th when all 3 runs scored against the Clippers were uneared as the team collected 3 fielding errors in the 8th and 9th innings.

Harrisburg Senators - off

Potomac Nationals - PPD

Hagerstown Suns - Lexington Legends 7  Suns 4 - 1B Bill Rhinehart scored his league leading 39th RBI (ranked #2 in all of the Minor Leagues) and Michael Burgess knocked in his 9th homer of the season in a losing effort to the Legends.  Brad Peacock (0-4 / 8.62 ERA) took the loss on just three hits / 4 runs in 5 innings of work.

He's not having a great year but he hasn't been god awful either. It's way too early to judge whether he is a flop or not.  He certainly isn't advancing at the pace some envisioned though. It's not that big of a deal though if he never pans out. We have plenty of other pitchers in the system.  VanAllen and Lannan were not expected to be worth any thing and 1 is excelling in the Majors and the other has the lowest ERA in all of the Minors.

Great start by Marco Estrada today for Harrisburg: 6 IP 2 H 0 R 0 ER 1 BB 8 SO

Estrada is only 24 and has a 4-2 record with a 2.38 ERA in AA this season. That's very solid. We are so loaded with pitchers in our system it's ridiculous.

Estrada's numbers on the season: 41.2 IP 38 H 16 R 11 ER 1 HR 19 BB 38 SO (.238 Opp BA)

you may cll me pessimistic, but it's a fact that only 1 in 5 players pan out. the way detwilers been, all i can do is worry. but i can cling to the fact that he piched one perfect inning in the majors.

Damn, Boomer Whiting (OF) is tearing it up since being brought up to Hagerstown from Extended ST a few weeks ago.

He is batting .400 (14/35) with 1 HR, 8 RBIs, 3 doubles, 11 runs, 5 walks, 4 SBs.

Whiting (25) was drafted by the Nats in the 27th round of last year's draft out of Louisville. He is not a power hitter but he hits for a high average and is a GREAT base stealer. He stole 37 bases last season which led the NY-Penn league.
