They dont have an 8th inning guy. Rizzo needs to either fix this, or sell it all.
Correct

12 games so far and the pen has had 2 clean games.

They've blown the lead and lost the game in the 10 others..

I have no words.

With a decent pen we would be 10-2 right now.

How can they have lost 10 games if the Nats only have six losses

The bullpen is pure crap,  All except Doolittle.

Sipp is garbage, A piece of crap.
Bear Claw (or whatever the freak his name is) is garbage, A piece of crap.
Grace is garbage, A piece of crap.
Miller is garbage, A piece of crap.

The need to be lined up and shot. All of them.

Barraclough isnt good. Hes allowed all his inherited runners to score.

Funny thing is, I think Rosenthal has the most potential. I could see him being relied on heavily if he straightens things out.

Bowden says Kimbrel wants at least 5/$100 million. Worth it now?

Lol, no.

1. Kimbrel doesnt make this team a playoff team. Especially when Strasburg, Doolittle, and Sanchez end up on the IL

2. That is a ridiculous amounts of money for a guy who is 30, cant throw strikes, looked awful in the postseason, and showed signs of decline last season

Bowden is almost always wrong. He’s not getting that much.

True. So far at least. His WHIP is 1.667.

Yep

Bowden isnt saying that's what hes getting, hes saying that's what he wants. That report has been fairly consistent all year. Kimbrel wants a big deal.
True. So far at least. His WHIP is 1.667.

He has a history of struggling in high leverage situations. He imploded in Miami when he was made the closer.

All this is fine, except Rosenthal has forced us to push guys into these positions and they arent ready or able.

Forget Kimbrel.  The pen is so bad that a bold solution is needed.  Kimbrel isn’t a bold solution.

First, identify a team that’s going nowhere but has three solid relief pitchers and trade for them.  Might have to give a solid prospect or two but do it.

Then pick out the three of the existing relievers (other than Doolittle)  most likely to improve, and dump the rest.  Just dump them.  Rosenthal might be one of those three; send him down (as we've discussed) for three weeks to get his mechanics straightened out.

Finally, there are a few relievers at Fresno pitching well.  Bring two of them up.

This plan might work and it might not.  But it is, in total, rather drastic, and would at least show that Rizzo is concerned.  I’m tired of hearing him say “it’s only 12 games, the pen will be fine”.  The pen will not be fine as is.

Have a look at the SF Giants.  6-9 with a fantastic bullpen.  Will Smith and Tom Watson should be targets for us.  Heck, Melancon appears to be having a bounce-back season (0.00 ERA,  7 Appearances).

You made me laugh. How many teams have given up so far? Good luck finding one of those with three solid relief pitchers. And trade for all three while giving up only a “solid prospecy or two”. You will have to give up two solid prospects to get one reliever.

They will wait for the trade deadline when there will be multiple bidders to drive up the price. Are you ready to trade Kieboom to get one of those?

Not Kieboom, but Wiseman and Garcia.

Let’s get Trevor Gott instead. 0.92 WHIP so far. How come we never get guys like that.

Once Roman Quinn returns don’t be surprised to see the Phillies trade Nick Williams and a minor leaguer for one of those Giants relievers. They have the money to absorb salary more than the Lerners. Who don’t want to pay luxury tax despite having all that Scherzer deferred money.
