The Mets are signing Rick Ankiel to a major league deal. Good for him.

I found this interesting as well.
Quote
The decision to designate Rick Ankiel for assignment "crushed" the Astros' clubhouse, Carlos Pena told Brian T. Smith of the Houston Chronicle. Pena says that every player on the team loved Ankiel, a testament that Brandon Barnes echoed to Smith. Smith notes that Pena is now alone in his role as elder statesman of a young, inexperienced team.
I remember reading similar things from Nats writers, everyone loves this guy.

That's because he has a cannon of an arm.   Love Rick

I remember that the players were in awe of a guy who could switch from being a phenom pitcher to an outfielder and make it back to the majors. One of them added that Ankiel had the best curve-ball on the Nats.

Good for Ankiel, good for the Merts, and even good for baseball.

I think baseball thinks the first best umpire in baseball because he's the crew chief on the "A"  crew.  Whatevs.  They all suck.

apparently our inability to hit affects former Nats as well - Willingham's last 14 games:  .116 / .269 /   .232

 Willingham? Mr. 2 Grand Slams in the same game?

First Morse drops now Willingham. Don't tell me  Dunn can't hit anymore?

I bet Rick Short could still swing the lumber.  In case anybody doesn't remember his 2005 slash line for the Nats:

.400/ .471/ .933/ .1404

Lannan throwing bullpen sessions now, i'm guessing he'll be back in another month.  He's been on the 15 day DL since mid-April and has only made 3 starts, compiling a 6.14 ERA.

Miss Iowa is only good for one pitch per game.  And she's wild.
