Sonny Gray to the cardinals. Maeda to Detroit. Do something Rizzo!

This is certainly an off-season where the ownership committee can show their actual priorities. However, anyone remember this?

The feeling that they might be putting his name out there and then they could say oh well we tried definitely comes to mind.

Wouldn’t be surprised if the general consensus is that this is not a year to overpay or rush into anything but to let the market come to them as it were, equating to very little being done and not being chalked up to another year of rebuilding.

I think the Braves wanted Sonny.

Detroit is not a contender. I guess they can flip Maeda this year or next. Too bad the Nats won’t spend to do that.
braves are supposed to be looking at Cease now after Nola and Gray are gone.

the thing is, there's an awful lot of pitching available in the FA market. You'd think there'd be someone who is a fit.  I mean, even a Brandon Woodruff would be a somebody who would be OK for not pitching this year but would be the top dog they'd need 2025 forward.

Cross another off the list: Jason Heyward is staying in LA. 1 year / $9 million.  He could have fit in nicely here in LF.

Surprised LA signed him again. Nice bounce back year but the two prior years in Chicago were just brutal offensively.  I’d rather have someone who could bash.

Detroit has made a couple of moves that I think would have been nice for the Nats, with the Canha trade and the Maeda signing. Laying out <$25 million for this.

It’s tough when the current owners don’t want to be around when the moves might pay off.  I’m sure they are willing to spend $2.5 million.

9 million for a two WAR player who can play all three OF positions is a steal.

Fangraphs projects him at 1 WAR.  The Dodgers really hit the jackpot last year with him and Peralta.

Brewers about to lock up jackson chourio for 8 years at $80 million (plus two team option years). He just got to AAA last year at age 19.

Seems like an incredibly risky signing to me. I know he's a top-3 prospect but it's not like he's been tearing it up in the minors, let alone the big leagues.

.803 OPS in 510 ABs at AA, .851 in 21 ABs at AAA, he'll be 20 in March so he's way ahead of his peers.

He's playing in the Venezuela winter league and has posted a .984 OPS in 66 ABs. He has struck out as many times as he has walked.

He wasn't bad for sure, just not elite. Prospects bust so often I'd feel pretty wary of offering someone a contract like that with such little experience unless they were putting up Holliday numbers. I wasn't aware of the Venezuela Winter League numbers, those are certainly much more promising.

Edit: For reference, Wood put up an .826 OPS in AA last year and people thought that was a bit disappointing.

Scott Kingery says hello.

Scotty Jetpacks could be an interesting cheap signing.  Good utility fill in for Triple A.

he's the #2 prospect in all of baseball (https://www.mlb.com/prospects/top100/) ahead of Skenes and Crews.

Wood started out slowly in AA but then heated up.

Mets sign Luis Severino for one year. $13 million.  Also Joey Wendle.

Wendle is someone I was interested in.  As for Severino, that's a fair price.

Once the Nats signed Vargas, there was no reason to look for infielders outside of first base

That makes me think the Yanks are determined to get Yamamoto.

I've thought of him as a real regular prior to last year and thought he'd be a bounceback candidate at 3rd or 2nd.

Passan says teams are asking the Rays about Randy Arozarena. Now that would be a heck of a LF addition for the Nats.

with his years of control, it's going to take the kind of package we got for Soto
