Two times zero is still zero. The Nats will be still near the bottom in prospects.
Just keep digging your hole deeper. Just take a step back and give it sometime. The team was a loser with Max and Trea. Max was gone after this year. Trea after 2022. They got what they could.

Hey Hohoho, I'm pretty sure your just a whiny troll. That baseball trade website that you said has "algorithms" also told me that the Cubs should have just given Kris Bryant to the Nats straight up for Carter Kieboom.

Trust that the value the Nats got was the best they could have gotten. Everyone knew Max and Trea were on the block. Teams have their best offers. It doesn't matter what YOU think the Nats could have gotten in a vacuum, that isn't real life baseball. The alternative was the Nats get NOTHING for these guys plus a complete wild card in a compensation pick for when Trea leaves.
When did this board ever “trust” the GM?
Just hoping I am wrong so I will stop now.

Don’t forget they probably could have gotten one more player but they did not want to eat any of Max salary. That’s on the owners.

Has that been confirmed?

With the big exodus, we may just find that some of these players who were effectively "blocked" this season turn out better than expected. That's the positive spin anyway.

And, if they aren't, we'll still have a much better read on who we have.

Hohoho isn’t a troll, he’s just righteously pissed about this trade. I disagree on this topic, but he’s a solid poster.
Fair enough, but how do we know Hohoho is a "he"?  Not that it matters, but most people who defend the Baby Shark song are women. :mg:

Fine, maybe not a troll but, like, he made his point that he is pissed. Ok, it's sad to watch good players get traded away. What Hohoho is doing is just not listening to anything and posting incessantly that the sky is falling. We got your point. Move on.

When the new farm rankings come out, if we’re not at least in the top third, I’d expect a return to 2008 levels of terrible. The roster is sparse to put it mildly and the team is paying the piper for all of the deferred contracts

How many deferred contracts do we currently have? Or do you mean that the insistence on offering deferred contracts is harming our ability to sign talent?

The Lerners have lots of money. The deferred compensation has no impact on the luxury tax calculations so if they want to spend the money they can. They should be using all the savings over the last few years from the deferred money to spend to make us a winner.

So it is all in unrealized capital gains. Nats value is $2B. Ted is worth over $5B, the richest man in MD, owning real estate like Tysons Mall and among the largest real estate owners in MVA. At 94, he can afford to pay a luxury tax and cash salaries for a couple players.

He’s 94 and has a ring. I doubt he cares at this point

His son is running the team anyway, right?

They've got plenty of money.  But they want to run a sustainable business.  Same goes for Cohen with the Mets.

Look at it this way.  The Nats have had about $20-30 million in deferred money they have not bee paying each year for their payroll as compared to their other peers.  So that has undoubtedly let them increase their investments greater than if they had paid that full payroll each year.  Investments have been growing greatly over the past few years.  So put some of that back into the team?

However this is all predictable as I was on record saying that they would cry over the deferred money down the road.  So they have the title and punted on 2022 and maybe 2023 and want a young lower salary team.  Other than St. Stephen and Corbin of course.  Nothing any of us can do.  It is what it is.  Have to hope the prospects and high draft picks pan out.

Not a good comparison.
Mets are 3rd in payroll, 27th in revenue
Nats are 12rh in payroll, 11th in revenue and they don’t pay upfront

27th in revenue?  How can that be?  They're in the New York market.

Rizzo should have ask for more, the dodgers are desperate to defend their title. You would think a future hall of famer a multiple all star caliber shortstop will net you more than just 2 prospects

Per Forbes mlb valuations. They do share the market with the Yankees.

They got four including the Dodgers top two.

Lol. The other 2 are minor leaguers. They are not really a “prospect”

And whatever they got from LA was better than any other offer.

https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/max-scherzer-trade-dodgers-finalize-blockbuster-deal-for-nationals-ace-and-trea-turner/

Quote
It should be noted Scherzer is not being paid a salary this season. His entire $35 million salary is deferred -- Scherzer will receive $15 million in deferred salary each year from 2022-28 -- and the Dodgers are assuming the prorated portion of this year's salary, according to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand. That won't be paid until sometime far down the road, however. The Nationals will  still reportedly owe Scherzer the "vast majority" of the deferred  money.
