And Martinez would get, what, maybe 85 wins out of that team?
God Emperor Manager would win 140 games

Sound like we are interested in Mike Fiers.

Dallas Keuchel
Anibal Sanchez
Mike Fiers
Wade Miley

It sounds like Rizzo is trying to figure out who is cheaper.

Take away Sanchez's dominance against the Nats, before looking at his numbers.

I’d take hellickson back. Not sure the others are an improvement over voth/fedde/McGowan etc.

Seriously, you put Fedde and Voth in the same class of pitcher for 2019 as Keuchel?

Watch. After all this, the Nats are going to end up with Gio again.

I think Gio would take a Lynn type of deal . He genuinely seemed to like it here. I would prefer him to Miley if Miley gets expensive.

If we give Gio 20 million or more, Rizzo deserves to lose his job

Adams is streaky, but complements Zim.  I think this means Daniel Murphy is not in the plans.  But it also means that a bonafide second baseman will be on the way, with a bench of Kendrick, Difo, Adams, Taylor.

Gio?  No, because at this point he is a 5th starter on a competitive team.  This team needs a 4th starter (one who can be trusted in the post season).

Another reason to balk at measuring guys by $/WAR. Adams is roughly a 1 WAR per 350 PA kind of guy, available for $4 million. Bryce is a 5 WAR guy, available for $35 million. Yet somehow they tell us the market rate is $9-10 million per win.

This goes along with my argument against Realmuto, whose value in prospects is being measure by that $9-10 million per win figure, even though alternatives are available for much less.

Anyways, good signing for me :)

I'm don't care about $/WAR either.  However, Harper is not available for $35mm.  For a single year (comparing apples to apples), he would cost well over $40mm.  No way the Lerners are going to pay him that much in 2019 when you have Robles, Soto, Eaton.

Yup, WAR is flawed especially when it comes to players who are put in places that maximize their WAR. The market is what really dictates the cost, and not WAR. Adams is in a pool of bat first, platoon hitters with questionable defense. That market is suppressed because it is inundated with many options, and many times a team has that type of player already in their system.

Adams is a great fit, and I'm glad the Nats got him back.

I tried to put in a question on a FG chat about whether the WAR reflects position scarcity. I agree that right now you can get a lot of power pretty cheap at first and maybe corner OF if you go for a less athletic option. Yet another reason Bryce is an overvalued option.

I could never get on board signing Murphy in a zim complementary role.   There would be too much temptation to play him at 2b.  Murphy proved that he was a —- 2b defensively and defensive stats fail in showing how bad mixed slow pitch level middle infielders actually are... ie guys like Murphy who are too slow to even get in position to be charged errors.  See nats record last year with Murphy starting to see how badly it hurt us.
