They were probably in use elsewhere for decades after that.  The handful of Chaffees the French had at Dien Bien Phu were just about all that kept the whole enchilada from being overrun in like a day.
Pretty sure those are WWII vintage M3 Stuart light tanks.

Nice historical reference.    That's mostly unknown stuff in the States.

I've seen that picture before...maybe on the website "You know you're a native Warshintonian and an old codger if you remember..."  Memory says it is a July 4th parade from about 1942 or '43.

Eddie Matz ESPN Senior Writer:
At the Nats All-Star press conference, Max Scherzer was wearing a tee-shirt with Anthony Rendon's face on it and this message: "Anthony is my favorite player." Despite ranking second in the NL in WAR, Rendon was left off the All-Star team and is one of five players in the Final Vote.

Daniel Murphy on why Nats teammate Anthony Rendon should be an All-Star: "Do you go to FanGraphs?"

Max Scherzer has been named NL Pitcher of the Month. In related news, chocolate has been named best ice cream flavor.

I would think the vehicles could have been used elsewhere.    :)      Maybe '43 and then transshipped to England for Overlord the following June?

Wouldn't they have been used in Korea as well?    Thanks for the insight.    I'm not questioning your facts but now I'm obsessed with finding out  ...   :old:
WWII taught the US that our previous concepts of armor were mostly incorrect. Armor theory prior to WWII was based on the tank as a mobile artillery piece used to support infantry and not to engage enemy tanks. Unfortunately for the tank crews of WWII tank on tank combat was quite frequent. By 1945 the M26 Pershing tank was in production and became the front line tank for the US until the development of the M46 Patton tank. Both the M26 and M46 saw action in Korea along with some M4 Shermans which were being phased out.

Unfortunately, almost all our wars have taught us the equipment and tactics of the previous war don't work.

Looks like winter judging from the trees though.  Inauguration Day?

Rockette's are kind of a NYC thing, right? They should have gotten some hip-hop dancers or something to rep DC. ;)

Good eye.    I googled the Raleigh Hotel (upper left).    It was around until 1964 so that didn't work out.    :)    Inauguration '41, '45  ...  maybe '49.

I think it is an inaugural parade. Certainly wintertime, and the clock on the Post Office Tower says 2-something, which is about the right time frame. Maybe 1945?

IMHO it would be hard to do this parade during a full out war overseas.   I'm sayin' '49 if it's an Inauguration.    How about "Welcome Home"  ...  pass in review '46?

I'm sure there were plenty of light tanks like those in the states for training purposes during the big one.
