They're freshwater fish.

Saw these in Kingstowne Lake walking back from Giant this afternoon. Can anyone tell what kind they are?

That first one is a hammerhead shark...

(channeling my best FP)

On an unrelated note, I -really- hope the Caps win one soon because I keep thinking 'That's a surprisingly upbeat post by Slate....'

Good eatin'?

 :spaz:

(though I see plenty of on-line commendations;  I've never been tempted, I don't like the generally stagnant ponds they thrive in.)

I don't know anything about carp in this part of the country or in man made ponds but I've seen 'em in the Ohio.     If I ate fish, I wouldn't touch a carp simply based on my history with 'em.    I suspect there's a reason these fish are in ponds in an urban/suburban setting.

So some jerk dumped a rooster and a hen at the park in my nrighbirhood yesterday, I convinced myself they’d be ok but tonight there is no sign of the hen and this rooster is so pitiful and lost looking and I have no idea where to take it to be safe :(

I guess 'cause I'm a little further out, our guys take just about anything.    I don't know the policy there but what about animal control?

I know shelters in our area take fowl, we built a chicken coup for one as an Eagle Scout project. Give it a shot.

Well?

Animal Control doesn't do chickens :?    my daughter's friend said they'd try to get out there today and bring it back to their farm but I didn't see it this morning, I went and bought seed last night and spread it out in the bushes so it would stay there out of the road so maybe it was in there :nervous:

Ain't exactly a critter but it is "backyard".    Missus and some neighbors have allergies.   I've never been affected too much.   This past Monday, I got to trimmin' some branches and bows in a maple out back.    By Tuesday, I was snifflin', etc.    My wise a**ed neighbor sent me this video:

Ive got these evil creatures hoarding the bird feeder now.

(Image removed from quote.)

Just saw one of these in the back yard.    Sucker was pickin' up peanut shells the squirrels left.   Must be a hearty eater.

This morning, a bit after 7, I'm biking along 4 mile run and another cyclist is pulled over looking across the water.  As I get closer, he has his phone out and says, "there's a bald eagle."  Sure enough, on the Alexandria side, on the flats, there's a bald eagle on the shoreline.  I did not get  a good look if he was chowing down, but I thought it weird to see him on the ground.  Not in distress, so I'm going to guess he caught something.

They are not at all above eating carrion. I watched them chow down on a dead deer in a field in Poolesville.

I want to share a picture of a mom and baby bear that dropped by this morning at our cabin, but can’t get it to show. I’ve got it on google images shareable to anyone with the link, and placed the URL inside the img tag. Help anyone??  Is there a better photo sharing app to use?
