I was his "bodyguard" for a single public appearance when he was with the Bulls back in 1977.  He was 7'2" & 240+/- pounds.  I was all of 5'9" & 160 pounds+/-...

He drove up in a Pontiac Gran Prix, with the driver's seat essentially where the rear seat would normally be...

Luckily, there wasn't much of a turnout...

A couple months ago but Rusty Young of Poco died.

This was his most popular song.

But a master of the pedal steel guitar.

And the banjo.

One night wife and I were only folks at a large table in the Quarterdeck Lounge, the upstairs bar from The Wharf restaurant in Old Town.   Bugsy Watson arrived with an entourage, and the staff at the Quarterdeck asked if we would be willing to surrender the table for Mr. Watson and his friends.  I sort of didn't appreciate that (though we were about to finish our final beers) and so I said no, but that they were welcome to join us at the table.

I immediately regretted my impetuous remark, as Bugsy took his seat next to me and, somewhat surprisingly, was gracious in his thanks for our invitation and introduced all the folks with him to my wife and I.

For those not in the know - When Bryan "Bugsy" Watson retired from the Washington Capitals, he held the all-time penalty minutes record for the NHL.  He was no stranger to mixing it up a bit.

Anyway, emboldened by the beer, at some point I turned to him and proclaimed - "you know, when you were with the Red Wings, I used to root for Blair Stewart to kick your ass".  Stewart was a very competent fighter for the Caps.  Bugsy just laughed, and said "let me show you what I used to to old Blairsy" and proceeded to put me in a headlock, and apply some moderately gentle noogies to my noggin.

So I got that going for me.  I got noogies from the great, wonderful human being and notable NHL tough - Bugsy Watson.  RIP friend.

Upstairs at bugsy’s in old town, by the bathrooms, are still a number of stories and posters about him.

Love that picture they used to have - perhaps still there, of him with a massive scar on his face.  He was compact, but very strong and athletic.

And with the passing of Bugsy, all the legendary characters have passed.  Pat Troy, owner of Ireland's Own, and Mr. Ray, colorful proprietor of the Fish Market.

my twin.  Or at least I claimed him as my twin in law school because we look so much alike.  I was heavily into wrestling from 1984 to  1989 (law school and a couple of years after that).  I even cut out early from my Torts spring semester final in order to catch a flight to NYC for wrestlemania 1.

This came as a surprise to me. He's one of those people whom I'd thought had died a long time ago.

I would have bet my absolute last dollar that he was long dead. Especially since they killed off the Krusty’s father character in the Simpsons.

According to the list on Wikipedia, only Woody Allen and Robert Klein are still alive of the "borscht belt" comedians of the 1950's through 70's.

Yep, I missed him on the list.

For me, growing up on Long Island in the 1970's, the Catskill resorts were all we knew as far as vacations. It's sad that they have all fallen into such disrepair.

TMZ reporting Dusty Hill of ZZ Top has died at 72. :(

I saw them in the 80's on the Afterburner tour.  This is probably my favorite song by them:
